Each portNoah knows which two seams should have special strength. This is the seam of the armhole and the seam of the seat (see articles on armhole processing and tailoring trousers).
Traditionally, these seams are recommended to be sewn with two straight lines at a distance of 1 mm, stretching the fabric.
This is a good way that has stood the test of time.
Extra strong stitches
But, modern technology offers even more reliable solutions.
An excellent replacement for two straight stitches can be "zigzag with small and large stitches" (Fig. 1), as well as "triple stitch straight stitch" (Fig. 2).
The only "disadvantage" of these two heavy-duty stitches is the difficulty of unraveling them.
So if you are using "zigzag with small and large stitch" or "triple stitch", carry out a preliminary fitting of the product.
Both of the above machine stitches work well with any (edge) overlock stitch if needed: 2, 3 or 4 threads.
No less difficult is the processing of the seam of the seat of a ladies' jumpsuit (especially tight-fitting) made of elastic fabric - see the pattern below:
Strong seams for stretch fabrics
Consider the most wear-resistant stitches suitable for stretch fabrics. The zigzag shown in Fig. 1 is suitable for a stretch that has little stretch.
And if the extensibility is large, you will have to use only the so-called "knit stitch" rice. 3.
Today, overlock and coverlock manufacturers offer several varieties of knitted seam. For example, its superelastic counterparts of 2, 3 or more threads.
