Description of the pattern, selection and consumption of fabric for the model

How to cut a short skirt with your own hands

I must say right away that it is more difficult to cut this model than short men's shorts according to the pattern of underpants, since it is desirable to take into account the shared direction for the front half (PP), based on the position of the ironing line (Fig. 2).

That is, having folded the fabric in half face to face, as is done in the vast majority of cases, we place the PP pattern on the cut so that the ironing line is strictly parallel to the edges.

We lay the shorts pattern in the most economical way and, if it does not fit the width of the fabric, we use an additional stitch.

Seam allowances: side, bow, step - 1 cm; seats - uneven - from 0,7 to 3 cm; on the bottom - 2 - 3 cm; no allowance is added at the waist and the cut is cut out beyond the line of the outline of the patterns, taking into account small allowances (“houses” 0,5 cm high) for tucks.

You will probably ask: why is there no allowance for the waist cut, because this cut is also processed and, therefore, an allowance is needed?

The answer is this: if you make an allowance for the waist, the darts and side cuts will have to be extended, and this will make the waist cut shorter after processing.

I continue on the seam allowances for the rest of the details. “Skirt”, burlap and facings - 1 cm each in all sections except for the waist section.

If we didn’t add it when we cut the shorts, then we won’t add the waist to the rest of the details.

By the way, I advise you to cut the burlap from another, preferably thinner fabric.

And I remind you that we first cut out the facings from dubbing, and then glue them on the rest of the fabric, taking into account the allowances, and cut them out with the allowances taken into account.

Attention! We also need cardboard patterns for turning.

How to sew a do-it-yourself shorts skirt according to a pattern

After cutting, we start sewing.

We start with the processing of darts, the flying edges of the “skirt” and the stitching edges of the facings (we iron them on a cardboard template), then pockets, side seams - in one of them there is a fastener and bottom of the shorts.

We overcast the burlap along the departure (along the curve).

Then, we sew the burlap to the “skirt”, iron it, “turn it inside out” (this line).

We limit the entrance to the pocket with notches according to the seam allowance for grinding the burlap and the “skirt”, we sew the entrance (only the entrance!) With a finishing line.

We adjust the burlap and sections of the "skirt" before and after entering the pocket on the PP shorts, focusing on the line of entry into the pocket. We do bindings.

If you succeed, you can consider yourself a tailor.

And do not save on fabric, because sewing is free for you.
