Styles of dresses that are sewn according to this pattern

Another simple pattern for sewing simple boho style dresses with your own hands.

According to this pattern, you can sew several styles with a bodice of various lengths. “Playing” with the length of the bodice, choosing a larger or smaller size, changing skirts, sleeves and pockets, you can significantly update your wardrobe with boho dresses for winter and summer.

Let's focus on the three main styles.

1. Dress detachable with a balloon skirt for full and slender. 3/4 sleeves, wide or narrow - as desired, pocket in the side seam, collar-type collar (Photo 1).
2. Cut-off dress with a Tatyanka skirt, a "collar" and a drawstring pocket. The skirt can be made with an assembly or pleats at the top and with a drawstring (tie) at the bottom. This dress is for fat and slender, young and not so, for summer and winter (Photo 2).
3. Cutaway plaid dress with wide sleeves or jersey with narrow sleeves. Pocket with flap. Also suitable for any build (Photo 3).

In fact, this is a pattern - a designer from which you can assemble many simple boho dresses for girls and women in your family.

Fabric consumption and what to sew this simple dress from

Since a cut-off under the bust dress is suitable for any season, consider fabrics suitable for sewing summer dresses and suitable for sewing warm dresses.

For summer, we choose linen, gauze, chintz, staple, crepe chiffon or silk, as well as thin knitwear.

For a warm dress - dress wool, both plain and "plaid" or jersey. You can also use a thin footer (only thin, in which the wrong side is looped, but not with a fleece!).

In any case, the fabric should be light enough in weight so that the skirt does not turn out to be too heavy and voluminous.

Maximum consumption for style with Photo 1 will be, depending on the size, from 280 to 350 cm, with a width of 140 - 150 cm. For cutting dresses of large sizes, a fabric with a width of at least 150 cm is recommended, since a smaller width will require additional stitching of the skirt.

The expense for a Tatyanka dress will depend only on the length of the skirt and is usually no more than 300 cm. The expense is calculated as follows:

Bodice length + Sleeve length + 2 skirt lengths + 10cm

How to cut different styles of dresses according to one finished pattern with your own hands

Cutting is not very difficult (figures 2 и 3), but has some features and nuances that will avoid miscalculations and unnecessary waste of fabric.

It is very important to think over all the nuances of cutting and sewing a dress, since the multiplicity of options can lead to many miscalculations.

I'll start by choosing a size. For sewing a dress from stretch, a smaller size is selected than for sewing a dress from stable fabrics, so you should not rely on the size number.

For stretch, choose a size where Pg (breast gain) for you will be 0 - 2 cm, and for stable fabrics - 2 - 6 cm. It is advisable to compare the volume of the pattern with the volume of your favorite dress so as not to be mistaken.

Now the most important nuance and rule for individual cutting and tailoring of a cut-off dress under the bust:

The length of the bodice is determined by the fitting

That is, you measure the approximate length of the bodice before cutting along the shelf from the side point of the neck, write it down and cut out the bodice at least 5 cm longer than what you have recorded. Better for all 10 cm longer.

Why do you need a bodice longer than it will be in a dress? To make a quality fitting! Namely: putting on the bodice on the figure, tie it with a thin linen elastic band and outline the “new” line of the bottom of the bodice, based on the characteristics of the figure.

This means that the “new” bottom line of the bodice may not be parallel to the existing bottom cut. Why would the "new" hemline of the bodice be lower in front than in the back? Due to the bulge of the chest and the larger the chest, the longer the bodice should be in front.

So, we cut out the bodice taking into account the fitting.

The second important nuance is the preliminary determination of the length of the balloon skirt or Tatyanka skirt, as well as the length of the sleeve. This will help save fabric.

The layouts of the patterns on the fabric themselves are not difficult. The fabric, as usual, is folded in half with the edges aligned. The edges of the fabric should be parallel to the edge of the cutting table. Patterns are laid out taking into account allowances for seams and share direction.

With the shared direction, everything is extremely simple - we combine the fold of the part with the fold of the fabric.

We determine the fractional direction of the sleeve by folding the pattern in half lengthwise. The fold line is the middle and share. The highest point of the eye is the top fold point.

Separately, it is worth talking about the sequence that must be observed when tailoring clothes individually. The sequence of cutting depends on the time of the fitting.

First, we cut out the bodice, assembling it, trying it on and making changes after trying it on, we will know exactly the length of the neckline, the length of the waist cut and the length of the armhole, if you are interested. Therefore, all the details that will depend on the changes made during the fitting should be cut out after making these same changes.

Now, as for the cutting of the Tatyanka dress (picture 3). All of the above applies to him. Plus, to save fabric, the width of the skirt can be slightly reduced, making one panel a little narrower by cutting out the back.

About wraps. They are cut out, as usual, first from dublerin or non-woven fabric according to the pattern without seam allowances. Turning blanks are glued onto the fabric remaining after cutting and cut out with allowances at the stitching points (figures 2 и 3).

Opening the cuff, if provided, is performed either on the basis of the length of the lower cut of the sleeve, or on the basis of the girth of the wrist (Oz). The cuff is a rectangle, a strip of fabric.

Cuff width = 2 finished cuff width + 2 cm

Cuff length = Length of the lower section of the sleeve + 2 cm

Or

Smear length = Oz + 5 cm

Seam allowances for this dress

Along the middle seam of the back for the back and skirt of the balloon, shoulder and side cuts of the bodice, along the flyaway, side and middle cut of the collar, along the front and back cut of the sleeve, as well as along the bottom of the sleeve - allowances of 1 cm.

On the lower cut of the shelf and back of the bodice, as mentioned above, we make an optimal allowance for convenient fitting. You can trim this allowance later.

We do not add allowances along the cuts of the armholes, sleeves and along the cuts of the neck. We do not add along the cut of the collar stitching.

When cutting a dress made of jersey or other knitted stretch fabrics, we also do not add seam allowances. In this case, the only exception is a rectangular patch pocket - you will need allowances for hem sections and 1 cm flap processing.

To grind the facing fragments, you will need 1 cm allowances. The side cuts of the facing for the boho pocket will also need 1 cm allowances.

To avoid confusion, seam allowances are shown in the layout drawings (figures 2 и 3).

How to sew a cut-off dress under the bust with your own hands for beginners at home from scratch

1. Assemble the bodice for fitting.
2. First sample. Put the bodice on the figure, perform the necessary adjustment and correction of the neckline, tie the bodice on the figure with a thin linen elastic band, mark the new line of the bottom of the bodice. Please note that under the elastic band there may be a strip of fabric that is not the same on all sides - this depends on the characteristics of the figure.
3. Make sample changes.
4. After fitting, you can cut out the rest of the details.
5. Then process the collar and sleeves, collect the skirt, including the pockets.
6. Stitch sleeves and collar (or process the neck).
7. Connect the bodice and skirt.

Separately, about sewing pockets in the boho style in this dress

A few words about the processing of the pocket in the boho style on the drawstring.

The upper cut of the pocket is processed by facing. Then, you should make holes for threading a ribbon or braid. You can simply sweep the loops on a typewriter or install accessories (grommets, blocks). When the drawstring is ready, the pocket is ironed on the cardboard template like any other patch pocket. The second template is used to mark the line to be pocketed before stitching.

Now about the patch rectangular pocket for stretch fabrics.

The ironing template is made 2 cm narrower and 1 cm shorter than the actual pocket area. Notches are made on both sides along the line of entry into the pocket and along the line of the fold of the valve, which are outlined in the drawing.

Then, the valve is ground and turned out, which should be ironed and secured with a line or hidden stitches, and the pocket itself is ironed on the template and adjusted to the dress, like any other patch pocket.
