Features of the pattern of this dress with your own hands

The choice of sleeves for the dress

Pattern of a free narrowed sleeve for a dress with a yoke skirtBefore cutting the dress, you need to choose a sleeve.

A narrow sleeve pattern - with a small fit - is recommended for girls with thin arms in the shoulder area. Such a sleeve must be cut along an oblique thread to provide some freedom of movement. A narrow sleeve is well suited for a stretch dress with low stretch and is not suitable for stiff, stable fabrics.

The pattern of the sleeve narrowed to the bottom - with a larger fit - is suitable for any fabrics and this sleeve style can be cut in any shared direction. This sleeve will be loose enough not to restrict movement.

Facing for processing the neck when sewing a dress

Drawing for cutting facings when sewing a dressNow briefly about the turning (turnings), which should be used to process the neck (picture 2).

They are cut out according to the patterns of the front and back or along the bodice of the dress after the first fitting and processing of the shoulder seams.

Turnings are cut out WITHOUT seam allowances from dublerin.

That is, you need to either fold the patterns by butt-joining the shoulder sections, or fold the bodice with processed shoulder seams in the same way. Then circle the neck, a fragment of the middle seam and a fragment of a half-skid on a doubler folded in half.

The width of the facing is 4 - 5 cm. It can be made ordinary (Fig. 2a), or with a decorative “tear” or “heart” (figure 2b and 2c).

Half-skid line, fractional thread and seam allowances for cutting the dress with your own hands

In the description, you came across an unfamiliar word - semi-skidding - this is just the middle line of the shelf.

The half-skid line is very important, especially when cutting the product, since it must be located in a strictly shared direction (picture 1 и 3). And in exceptional cases, for example, if you cut a dress made of fabric into a large symmetrical cage, the fractional thread should pass strictly through the corners of the square rapport.

In the photo we see a very large cell. The half-skid coincides with the shared thread.

Seam allowances for cuttingThe share thread of the back in this case should also coincide with the center line of the back. The middle line is on the patterns, but it is even easier to determine the share direction - a transverse thread should pass along the cut of the waist.

The yoke of the front half of the skirt (PP, shelves) is cut out, like the shelf - the half-skid coincides with the shared direction, but the yoke of the RFP (back) can be cut out along the oblique. This share direction will improve the fit.

Be sure to pay attention to the seam allowances (picture 3).

Seam allowances are NOT added to the sprout (neck of the back), to the neck of the shelf, armholes, waist cut of the yokes of the skirt and along the hem of the sleeve.

To make it clearer, if you add an allowance of 1 cm, for example, to the armhole, then it will become shorter.

But to the cut of the waist of the bodice, we add a large allowance - 3 - 4 cm, in order to make it more convenient to determine the length of the bodice during the fitting.

The remaining seam allowances (shoulder, side, bottom cut of the yoke) are 1 - 1,5 cm each.

Do-it-yourself pattern of a dress with a skirt on a yoke - pattern layout patternTurning allowances are added after gluing to the fabric in the places of stitching - along the middle seams.

It remains to be said only about the allowance for the middle seam of the back (picture 3). 1,5 - 2 cm is enough, the rest can be cut off when cutting.

Now that all the "and" are dotted, consider the layout (picture 4).

The fabric is folded in half face to face, while the edges are combined with each other and are parallel to the edge of the table. If the edges are stretched, trace them with a thin chalk line.

We start with the base (alignment) of one of the transverse sections of the fabric. On the 4 drawing base cut at the bottom. Then, we measure the lengths of the frills, taking into account the hem allowance along the bottom, and lay out the patterns, observing the desired share direction and economic feasibility. Add seam allowances.

Separately, it should be said about how much fabric should go to the frill, more precisely, what transverse length should the frill strip be in order to achieve the desired fluffiness of the skirt.

There is a rule that the cut to be cut should be 1,5 - 2,5 times longer than the cut to which the frill is attached. 1,5 times if you need an easy assembly and 2,5 times if the frill should be lush.

How to sew this dress step by step
