Features of a do-it-yourself pattern of a dress in Lolita style

The Lolita style came to us from Japan, and its roots go back to the Victorian era.

Fashion connoisseurs associate Lolita with Rococo era costumes and gothic fashion.

There is another version: these women's patterns were for children, but they really liked the girls who did not want to grow up in the eyes of others.

Be that as it may, if we are not fans of the Lolita style, then we can sew these dresses without puffy petticoats and frilly details.

However, for girls under 12 years old, “sweet Lolita” with numerous frills and laces is the best fit.

And young women who are tired of having a straight skirt and a boring life can sew a Lolita dress without frills and even without a collar, cutting off the neckline to your liking.

Fabric consumption for the dress and seam allowances in this pattern

As mentioned above, in order to determine the exact consumption of fabric, you need to make patterns and lay them out, taking into account seam allowances, and then add the expense for frills to the resulting consumption.

In the vast majority of cases, the total cost for tailoring a Lolita dress will be about 3 meters.

About seam allowances that need to be taken into account when cutting.

On the bottom of the dress and sleeves 2 - 2,5 cm, armholes, sprout, neckline, sleeve hem - beyond the line of the outline of the patterns. The remaining allowances - 1 cm.

Along the side cut of the side of the shelf, in addition to the seam allowance, you can add a margin, that is, increase the allowance to 2 - 2,5 cm.

To calculate the amount of fabric needed for frills, you need to know the width of the frill and their length.

When calculating the width, do not forget to add 3 cm for processing, and when calculating the length, follow the rule: one and a half lengths - for the minimum density of the assembly, two lengths - for the average, three lengths - for the maximum density.

In this case, we are talking about the length of the seam connecting the frill with the skirt.

Options for cutting a dress according to a pattern with and without a yoke

Cutting without a yoke is shown in 2 drawing. As you can see, the layout is of the “jack” type, the shelf is laid with a half-slide on the fold, like both collars.

The yoke is indicated on the patterns and, if necessary, it can be cut from another fabric, having previously cut off the middle part of the shelf from the pattern along the line corresponding to the desired size (picture 3).

Open dresses with a yoke (picture 4) is virtually identical to the previous version.

In both cases, notches should be placed on the details of the cut at waist level.

Since there is a shirt-type fastener on the yoke, you need to cut it the same way as a shirt (see how to cut a dress-shirt according to a female pattern).

When cutting, do not forget to take into account the width of the side - about 1,5 cm and the width of the one-piece selection of 3 - 4 cm.

Attention! Beginning couturiers! We cut the collar according to the product, and not according to the neck circumference, size and proven pattern.

Collar sizes indicated in electronic patterns are conditional and are suitable only for mass sewing. They shouldn't worry you.

How to sew a Lolita dress step by step

In general, for sewing dresses with frills, you can purchase a special foot for gathering (gathering) tissue.

Sewing a Lolita dress is not very difficult:

1. First, we process the halves of the coquette, if any.
2. We put the halves of the coquette on top of each other, combining the half-skid line and sweeping.
3. We sew in and sew in the yoke prepared in this way, then we grind the reliefs and the middle seam of the back, combining the notches at the waist (you didn’t forget to make them?).

5. Sweep shoulder and side seams. We fasten a zipper to the left side seam.
6. We do a sample.
7. If necessary, we adjust the line of the neck and armholes.
8. If the second fitting is not provided, we beat off the length.

10. After trying on, we sew in and sew in the collar and sleeves, we sew the zipper.
11. Before stitching, of course, it is desirable to measure.
12. Then, if the length is not “beaten off”, we measure and beat off.
13. We finish with the processing of the bottom of the sleeve, dress and frills.
14. We adjust the frills with or without a tool (two weak lines at a distance of 3 mm and pull off).
15. Loops, buttons ... Done!

As you can see, sewing clothes is not a very simple process if you do not have special skills. Therefore, try to choose dress patterns that you can sew yourself.
