Description of the design of the style and what to sew a dress of this cut from
Pattern this dress has a trapezoidal semi-adjacent silhouette with a relief on the back and a semi-relief on the shelf. This design allows you to more accurately fit the silhouette shape, achieving an elegant freedom of fitting.
The dress can be sewn, both with soft folds on the shelves, and without them. An additional pattern of a shelf without folds will allow you to check the accuracy of the folds or sew a dress without them from a denser fabric.
What to sew and what fabric consumption
Thin cotton fabric is ideal for sewing a dress with pleats. For example, chintz, muslin, dress satin, shirting and fine linen.
For sewing a warm dress, you can use dress wool.
For the option without folds on the shelf, both wool and tight knitwear are suitable.
The fabric consumption will be from 280 to 330 cm. If possible, buy fabrics 20-30 cm more for a practice sample of folds.

How to cut a trapezoid dress with folds according to the finished pattern
Notches and seam allowances
Cutting is so simple that only one thing can be said from it - do not rush to cut before completing the fold pattern. And after completing it, cut out a shelf with very large allowances at the top and outline a half-skid.
When the folds are completed, base the shelf with pleats on the pattern of the shelf without folds.
Next - a very simple cutting.
Please note that the neckline will be successfully replaced by a double yoke. And the turning of the sprout is cut out along the middle part of the back from dublerin without seam allowances. Later, when all the details are cut out, you can stick the facing blank on the lunges of the fabric and cut it out with seam allowances along the shoulder and middle sections.
With seam allowances for the main parts, everything is also quite simple - 1 cm.
On the bottom - 2,5 cm.
Exceptions, as always, are cuts of the neck, armholes and sleeves - no allowances are added for them.
Pocket entry cut - you can add 0,5 - 0,7 cm, but it is more important to make a notch at the end of the pocket entry curve and the beginning of the semi-relief.
When cutting out the side of the shelf, we also add notches that limit the burlap.
In addition, we perform notches at the waist so as not to warp the dress when assembling the product.
But the tailoring of this dress has some nuances of consistency.
How to sew a trapeze dress with your own hands on household sewing machines
The most difficult operation is to perform beautiful identical folds. They are quite difficult to perform without having sewing skills.
Before pleating directly on the front, make a fold pattern on a piece of fabric.
The easiest way to make these folds is using masking tape.
Fold width 2 cm.
We cut off a strip of adhesive tape of the desired length and 1,8 cm wide, draw a line on it, departing from one of the edges of 1 cm, that is, NOT in the middle.
Next, stick the tape to the place of the fold, bend along the line, make a line, remove the tape. We iron the crease.
We glue the adhesive tape, bend along the line, make a line ... etc.
If everything worked out, we cut out a shelf according to the pattern with warehouses with stocks of 3-4 cm on each side. If the sample does not work, we cut the dress without folds.
Now the dress sewing sequence step by step
- Run folds on the shelf, iron. Establish according to the pattern without folds.
- Process pockets: grind the cut of the entrance to the pocket of the shelf with burlap, iron; put a barrel and sweep along the line of entry into the pocket; perform bindings.
- Stitch the barrel, stitch the burlap of the pocket, overcast and iron the seam.
- Stitch the yoke, iron the seam up without overcasting.
- Turn the neck of the shelf, iron.
- Collect the back (stitch, overcast, iron), stitching the zipper to the middle seam.
- Turn the sprout with a turn, iron it.
- Finish shoulder and side seams.
- Finish the sleeve.
- If you try on, then the shoulder and side sections are swept away, and the neck can not be turned. On the fitting, you should clarify the degree of fit, cut the armhole according to the figure and, putting on the sleeve, outline three points for tying it in.
- Then, fold in the sleeve and try on the dress again. Mark the final sleeve length. Level the bottom off the floor.
- Process the bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeve into a hem with an open cut - overcast, fold once and hem on a typewriter or by hand with a blind seam.
