Sleeves come in different designs. In this master class, a sleeve with a fit is considered. The bodice is shirt. The pattern of this season's fashionable "dress-shirt" can be downloaded almost for free here:
Non-stop sleeves can be omitted and the sequence of sewing the product will be different (for more details, see the article "How to Sweep a Sleeve").
Knee-in sleeves often cause not only questions, but also fear among beginner tailors. Many of them in sewing clothes generally avoid styles with set-in sleeves, preferring to deal with kimono patterns и "bat".

By the way, sleeve patterns are the same for women's and men's clothing. The determining values are only the width of the sleeve and the length of the collar.
If we talk about the design features of sleeve patterns, then tight-fitting sleeves for shackle clothing can be distinguished into a separate group of non-stop sleeves.
And sleeves for owners of full hands can be considered a special exception. In this case, the pattern is built according to the Op measurement and has a mandatory tuck along the sleeve hem. You can download a free sleeve pattern for full ones at the link.
It is worth noting that it is not uncommon for home couturiers to make such mistakes in tailoring a product at the initial stages of tailoring that even good patterns and competent stitching cannot save the situation.
The main three sewing lessons that you should learn before you start basting the sleeves are
- wet heat treatment (WTO, aka ironing),
- maintaining the symmetry of parts
- and the principle of "mirror" operations.
A little more about "mirror" operations. They are performed sequentially - first on the left side, and then on the right (or vice versa). For example, we sew the left shoulder seam, then we sew the right shoulder seam, the right side seam - the left side seam, etc. This sequence is especially important for more complex operations, such as tucking in sleeves, processing pockets, sides, etc.
Before proceeding, you must prepare the product for fitting (all seams of the bodice or dress are stitched, swept over and ironed). If necessary, you should adjust the armhole line on the fitting.
So, enough generalities, let's try to break down this difficult task of tucking in a sleeve with a fit into simple steps to develop a skill.
Concluding this little sewing lesson, I want to remind you: the sleeve is sewn in with two lines, which should be stretched a little.
After following all the recommendations, you will become a real master of sewing clothes.
Remember, sewing yourself means always being in trend! Make your own fashion!
