Sewing lessons from Vera Olkhovskaya
Did you know that the zipper was invented over 100 years ago?!
This amazing invention was patented by Umtcomb L. Judson on November 7, 1891, as a shoe fastener, which was needed by his friend, who injured his back during a fire. This hero saved a little girl from the fire.
Success came to Judson only in 1917, when America entered the First World War ... I will not retell the whole story of the "lightning", it is worthy of a separate article, but I will only add that the secret "lightning" has been in trend for more than one year and is not going to give up its positions, so it's time to learn how to sew them to the dress, even if you don't know how to sew. After all, hidden "zippers" sometimes break and have to be changed...
In general, everyone who masters sewing with their own hands has a lot of difficulties regarding “zippers”. Therefore, before puzzling over how to sew (not “sew in”, but “sew in”!) “zipper”, find out if it is needed at all in this dress.
I will give an example:
dress with a swing neck - pattern
If you sew it from stretch, you won’t need a “zipper”, and if you add silk or wool, and even add a tuck, then you can’t do without a secret “zipper”.
Rђ RІRѕS, another dress example - the zipper is not required if you deepen the neckline

If you decide that you cannot do without a zipper, then it should be stitched at the stage of preparing the product for fitting.

So, before sweeping the seam in which there will be a “lightning”, in the course of preparing the dress for fitting, we mark the limits of the “lightning” with chalk or threads. We sweep the seam with bartacks before the mark of the beginning of the "lightning" and after the mark of its end.
We grind the seam to the beginning of the "lightning" from above. We start and finish the stitching line with machine bartacks. Iron the seam on an ironing board or with a pillow.
And, having ironed out the seam, we prick a “lightning” on it with pins from the wrong side. Then, we take each side. When the "lightning" is swept, we perform a fitting. If there is a need, we make changes to the dress and again sweep the seam, iron it, prick and baste both sides of the “zipper”.
Having completed the basting, we remove the basting of the seam in the area where the “lightning” will be, that is, between the manual bartacks.
After that, the "zipper" can be sewn on.
There are various paws for attaching a hidden “lightning”, but working with each of them differs slightly.
I used a single foot.
After attaching the "lightning" we grind the bottom of the side seam and remove all temporary stitches. It remains only to iron!
