There are several easy ways:
- Drawstring skirts with a narrow elastic band (the elastic band is pulled through with a pin).
- Drawstring skirt with a wide (2 - 5 cm) elastic band.
- A skirt with a wide elastic band instead of a belt.
- Elasticated skirt 1 cm wide, stitched in a zigzag pattern.
- There are more complex methods when there are only fragments of the belt (side or back) on the elastic band, but they will be discussed in the “Combined Belt” material.
Let's get started.
Drawstring skirts with narrow elastic.
Most often, “tatyanka” (skirts made of a rectangular piece of fabric) for children and adults are treated this way.
We start with the processing of the "vertical seam".
Then, we overcast the waist section of the skirt, bend it inside out to the width of the elastic band + 0,5 cm, we note and lay a line, leaving a hole for pulling the elastic band.
We stretch the elastic band, with the help of a safety pin and process the bottom.
If you need to sew a skirt with several thin elastic bands, then only the width of the "hem" of the upper cut and the number of stitches for the drawstring will change.
Drawstring skirt with wide elastic band.
The skirt is processed in the same way as in the first method, but when the elastic is pulled through, it should be fixed in a “zigzag” along, otherwise the elastic will twist inside the drawstring.
You can fasten with one or more lines along the elastic band.
You can also make several vertical bartacks or secure the elastic with large "teeth" across the entire width of the drawstring using a straight and reverse (bartack) stitch.
To do this, the belt is located across the course of the line and stretches as much as possible, the lines back and forth are laid at a slight angle.
Skirt with a wide elastic band instead of a belt
This is one of the most popular ways to sew skirts.
It can be used for tailoring skirts of any shape - “tatyanka”, “feathers”, “flared”, “wedges”, etc.
First, the skirt itself is processed, with the exception of one seam (preferably the middle one at the back), then the skirt and the elastic are connected, the fitting is performed (the elastic can stretch when sewing), and the last seam is processed according to the result of the fitting - from the top of the elastic to the bottom of the skirt.
Particular attention will be required by the operation of connecting the elastic belt and the skirt itself. Let's consider it in more detail.
It is very important that the elastic is measured exactly at the waist - no more and no less.
We mark the measured gum with chalk (or soap) - we divide it into 4 or more equal parts.
We also mark the upper cut of the skirt - we divide the number of parts by the same as the elastic band.
We chip off with sewing pins, combining chalk marks.
And only after that we grind, while stretching the elastic band to the length of the cut of the skirt.
Stitching can be done with a zigzag or knit stitch (see "Machine seams").
The skirt has an elastic band 1 cm wide, stitched in a zigzag pattern.
Suitable for skirts made of thin fabric or knitwear of any cut.
Sewing technology, as in method three (on a wide elastic band). Only the operation of attaching the elastic band and the elastic band itself differs.
Attention! in this case, you will need a thick elastic band about 1 cm wide and of good quality.
Preference should be given to the elastic used for bra straps.
The upper section of the skirt is folded back to the inside by 0,7 - 1 cm and ironed. The elastic is measured exactly at the waist without any allowances for entry, as it will stretch a little when sewing.
The elastic is divided by marks into 4 or more equal parts, the upper cut of the skirt is also.
The elastic is superimposed on a bent and ironed section with an indent from the fold of 1 - 2 mm and is chipped off with pins so that the marks match.
Attaching is done from the side of the elastic band in a wide zigzag or zigzag-three, while the elastic band is stretched to the length of the cut of the skirt.
