How to cut a dress shirt with a one-piece straight cut sleeve

Before reveal it is necessary to decide whether the shelf will be with an average seam or with a cut processed by turning (picture 2).

Which option is preferable?

When processing the cut under the collar with a piping, we save the width of the fabric when laying out, which is important for large sizes or if you do not have enough fabric. Turning will make the “base” of the cut more wear-resistant than the “base” of the seam spreader. In addition, the lapel of the collar will look more aesthetically pleasing, but with all the undeniable advantages, turning is more time consuming.

✂ And actually, how are such spreaders (cuts) in the seams processed?

The seam is partially ground off with a good bartack and is swept away in the place of the spread. The allowance near the spreader is duplicated and overcast, while the overcast line goes further to the seam cut. The stitched and overcast seam is ironed out. After the collar is sewn in, finishing stitches are laid and another bartack is performed at the base of the spreader by machine or by hand.

It is also worth noting that the cut processed by turning is not cut immediately when cutting and is marked on the finished turning, turned and only then cut, and the allowance is cut, otherwise it will not work to turn out the turned.

The cuffs and waistband, as you already know, are cut in the shape of rectangles.

Cut-to-length cuff width = 2 finished widths + 2 cm

Cut-out cuff length = hem sleeve width + 4 cm (It is better to add more, and then cut off the excess).

Belt width in cutting = 2 widths in finished form + 2 cm

Belt length = fabric width

There will be no difficulties with the shared thread - in all details they are along the middle lines, let's deal better with seam allowances.

Add 1 cm along the middle, side, shoulder seams and along the bottom of the dress. On the bottom of the sleeve, along the sprout and the neck - do not add, so as not to distort the cut.

For the strap and collar, allowance is 0,7 cm. For burlap, allowances are not needed.

✂ About the middle seam on the back and pleats

Another important question you need to decide before cutting: do you need a middle seam on the back?

If you want to get a free dress without vents or spars, then the middle seam can be omitted. In this case, lay the back on the fabric fold in the middle line. If the dress is semi-adjacent, then a seam is desirable.

And about soft folds. They are optional. They can be made only on the back or only on the shelf, you can increase. It depends on the figure and desire, so it is better to decide on the fitting.

How to sew a dress shirt with a one-piece sleeve with your own hands step by step

1. We start by sewing, overcasting and ironing the middle seams, if you have them. We notice soft folds and iron them too.
2. Then, we grind, overcast and iron the shoulder seams. We iron along the workpiece of the cuffs, we make straps. We fasten the straps to the side seam from the inside with large cross stitches from the bottom of the sleeve. On the “face” we put the ironed along the cuffs, stitch it, overcast and iron the seam.
3. After that, we mark the place for attaching the burlap of the pockets. To sew all 4 pieces of burlap strictly at the same level, fold all 4 side seams together and make a notch, retreating down from the waist about 10 cm.
4. Sleeve-side seams should be overcast, going to the bottom. Overcast the burlap (each separately) and only then sew the burlap to the side seams and, after ironing the pocket entrance, stitch and iron the side seam.
5. Collar processing: the lower one is duplicated, the flying part is turned, the stand is turned. After that, the collar can be swept in and sewn in.
