How to sew a skirt with a one-piece belt with your own hands according to a pattern for beginners

Straight skirt: open

A straight skirt is a must-have style in cutting and sewing courses for beginner tailors.

Pattern of a straight skirt (picture 1) is applied to the fabric.

In this case, the fabric should be folded in half facing inward, the edges are parallel to each other and parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

Of course, from the edge to the fold, a pattern should fit with an allowance for the middle seam and / or slot (picture 2).

Pattern of a straight skirt can be done independently or cut it directly on the fabric, that is, in a patternless way.

I will add skirts according to this pattern, you can cut not only styles with a slot, but also pleated styles (in the article at the link, figures 6 and 7) along the half-skid and the middle seam.

The same styles are easily cut without pattern.

And it is better to cut a narrowed skirt without a side seam according to the finished pattern.

Attention! In a patternless way, a narrowed skirt can only be cut with a side seam.

In any case, the narrowing should be carried out along the side line or side seam (picture 3 и 4).

You can cut a maximum of 2 cm from each half.

After you cut or fold the size necessary for narrowing according to the pattern, you should adjust the bottom line by lengthening the new side cuts by a few millimeters.

It is important that the bottom and side form a right angle.

It is NOT recommended to make a slot or a slit in a narrowed skirt, as they are strongly deformed when moving and distort the silhouette of the product.

There is one more subtlety: length.

Too long tapered skirt is very uncomfortable.

Therefore, the recommended length is up to 65 cm or the skirt must be stretchy.

Seam allowances.

Add 1 cm along the middle seam and side tuck or seams. On the slot - 5 - 6 cm. On the bottom - 2,5 - 3 cm. On the waist - 2,5 - 3 cm.

Separately about the processing of a one-piece belt

It is much easier to handle than regular belt - stitched.

After the darts are stitched and carefully ironed towards the middle seam of the RFP, silicone “bones” are inserted into them.

The ends of the "bones" can be pre-melted with a lighter.

The allowance on the "top" is duplicated, while the "inside" of the tucks should not fall under dubbing.

The section is overcast on an overlock, bent and swept up with large oblique stitches.

And then carefully ironed from the wrong side of the skirt.

To secure the belt in this position, vertical bartacks are performed with a regular straight stitch.

The bartack stitch must be in line with the tuck and side seam.

The gaps between the bartacks can be hemmed with a blind stitch, however, this is not required in small sizes.
