What fabrics to sew this combined dress case

For sewing the lower (dark) part of the combined sheath dress, it is advisable to choose dense knitted fabrics with low extensibility. It can also be a tight denim stretch. Loose wool knitwear that does not hold its shape should be avoided.

For the upper (light) part of the combined sheath dress, you can choose almost any fabric that is not too thin. For example, thin denim or thick silk, shirt chintz and poplin are suitable. Thin fabrics such as chiffon are less suitable, as it is difficult to foresee the appearance of the seam connecting the top and bottom of the dress. Stretch fabrics with low stretch are also suitable - it is for them that a narrow sleeve is provided in the pattern set.

The consumption of fabric for the lower part depends on the length of the product and the width of the fabric. With a fabric width of 150 cm, the consumption for all sizes will be one shelf length plus 5 cm. With a fabric width of 140 cm, the consumption from the 58th size increases to one and a half shelf lengths.

The fabric consumption for the upper part of this sheath dress will be 100 - 120 cm.

Features of a do-it-yourself pattern of such a dress

To avoid confusion, let's deal with the pattern of the upper part of the shelf (picture 2).

For the speed and convenience of processing the sides of the “blouse”, the top of the shelf should be combined with the pattern of the selection, gluing them end-to-end with adhesive tape.

According to the pattern obtained after combining, the upper part of the shelf should be cut out.

Some couturiers will need to cut the selection separately. It should be cut separately if there is not enough fabric or if the selection is cut out from another fabric, for example, from finishing.

But, if you do not have too much experience in cutting and sewing, then it is still better to make the selection one-piece (see picture 2).

Pay attention to the notches made on the patterns of the blouse - they indicate a half-skid. The semi-skid is an important constructive line of the product, which runs along the midline of the human body through the jugular cavity and the navel.

The notches on the half-skid in the “blouse” will allow you to accurately determine how to properly iron the pick and place the shelves one on top of the other before connecting to the bottom.

Do I need to duplicate selection?

It depends more on the desire of the master. The main thing is not to overdo it so that the selection does not look very hard. For blouses, choose thin dubbing, for example, adhesive interlining or stretch dublerin. But in many cases, you can do without duplicating the selection.

Cutting the combined sheath dress is quite simple (drawings 3 и 4).

For the lower part, the fabric should be folded like this:

according to the width of the layout - for small sizes (picture 3);

or twice for - for large sizes (picture 4).

Of course, in any case, the fabric is folded face inward, and the shelf is laid with a half-slide on the fold.

Pay attention to the allowances for the lower part of the shelf and back: add 2,5 - 3 cm along the bottom, the same amount for processing the cut, and leave only 1 - 1,5 cm above the middle seam. The rest of the allowances - 1 - 1,5 cm .

When cutting the upper part, the fabric is folded to the widow face inward and the edges are combined. Allowances 1 - 1,5 cm, except for the sprout (neck of the back), neck, armholes and sleeves - all of them are cut out beyond the stroke line of the patterns, which actually gives about 3 millimeters.

It is important that the back of the "blouse" goes without a middle seam and the pattern fits into the fold. It is slightly wider than the bottom back detail, this will make it possible to plant the back of the “blouse” a little when sewing. If the landing is undesirable, then you can lay soft folds on the “blouse” above the tucks. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Cutting the collar is not difficult - the pattern is laid on the fold. But it is desirable to cut out the collar after trying on, when the shoulder sections are processed and carefully ironed. Choose the size of the collar according to the length of the neck of the product. As you can see on the templates, the collars are easily lengthened or shortened due to the offset of the midline.

Cuff size calculation

Cuffs are usually cut out "according to the residual principle" (unsigned rectangles in Fig. 3-4), when the place under the collar has already been marked. Attention! noted, and will cut out after fitting.

Cuff width = 1/2 finished cuff width + 2 cm

Cuff length = finished cuff length + 2 cm.

How to sew this dress step by step

1. We collect a "blouse" without sleeves and a collar. The main thing is to iron the side and, having combined the notches, connect the shelves - sweep the sides overlaying each other. Basting is needed only at the bottom of the "blouse" with cross stitches.

5. Then we collect the lower part. We sweep or grind with a temporary line. A chain stitch is very handy for this purpose. We take lightning. Lightly puff up.
6. Trying on. We specify the line of armholes and necks, the fit of the lower part. Let's see how they fit together. We sweep the sleeves, sweep the top with the bottom and try on again.
7. We grind and carefully iron everything that was swept away.
