At the same time, the range of knitted fabrics is also very large. In some cases, you can use coarse knitwear.

Seam allowances

As you know, seam allowances depend both on the style and volume of the product, and on the properties of the fabric and sewing technology.

An oversized dress (with PB from 6 cm) made of stretch with cuffs and a dove collar can be safely cut without seam allowances.

Such a product is almost completely sewn on an overlock knit stitch...

Consider a more complex cutting option - for a stable fabric and / or for a semi-adjacent silhouette, when the Pb (increase on the hips) is 2 - 4 cm.

In this case, the seam allowances are 1 - 1,2 cm. The exception is the cuts of the neck and the stitching of the collar - no allowances are added to them. On the bottom - 2 - 3 cm.

How to cut a straight cocoon dress

The fabric is folded in half face and face, the edges are aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

Patterns are laid out in an economical way and in accordance with the shared direction.

As for the sleeves, it is better to place the lobar parallel to the line through the extreme points of the shoulder cut.

The upper and lower collars can be cut both in the same lateral direction, when the lateral one coincides with the middle line of the collar, and along the oblique.

An important point of cutting is its sequence. First, you should cut out only the shelf, back and sleeves. And after the dress is “assembled” and carefully ironed, you should measure the length of the cut of the neck and the length of the cut of the bottom of the sleeve.

According to the measurements obtained, select the size of the cuffs and collar, and only then cut them out.

The burlap is cut out last and if there is not enough fabric for it, the burlap is cut out from another fabric. A narrow strip of dress fabric (valance) is added to it so that other fabric does not peek out of the finished pocket.

How to sew a straight-cut cocoon raglan dress with your own hands step by step

1. We grind, weave and iron or iron the raglan seams. If the dress is sewn on an overlock with a knitted seam (do not confuse it with an overcast!), The seams are simply ground down and ironed.
