This video master class on sewing a pencil skirt is dedicated to only one operation - processing the bottom.
Of course, straight skirts are sewn from different fabrics, but now natural, easily wrinkled fabrics are in trend.
Including linen.
My task was to find a sewing method that would allow me to wear a tight linen skirt in the heat without fear that it would wrinkle.
See how to make a linen pencil skirt almost indelible. It is important that beginner couturiers can repeat the sewing method shown in this video tutorial ...
Processing the bottom of the skirt when sewing video
So, I am sewing a linen skirt, processing the bottom with soft reguilin.
The method shown in this video is especially suitable not only for sewing skirts, but also for sheath dresses and other straight and silhouette products made from natural fabrics.
Surprisingly, not only the bottom becomes indelible - the product as a whole looks much better after a day of wearing.
Of course, machine embroidery on the bottom of the skirt also plays its role.
Bottom sewing method
The bottom is ironed to the width of the reguilin tape or 0,5 cm wider, but in no case narrower, otherwise the reguilin will peek out from under the hem.
I used white soft reguilin with a width of 2,5 cm, and the bottom is bent by 2,7 - 3 cm.
The regilin tape is inserted between the layers of fabric when the bottom is already ironed.
Then the bottom is swept in with an indent of 0,5 cm from the cut swept over on the overlock.
At the same time, soft regilin may fall under the basting line or not fall - it does not matter.
I hem by machine - I lay a secret machine line with the help of a foot for a secret line.
This line in the instructions for the typewriter is classified as a group of hemstitch lines.
This way of processing the bottom is called "open hem processing". Of course, you can also sew by hand.
All possible variations of sewing the bottom into a hem with an open cut have already been shown by me using the example of sewing a dress made of jacquard fabric.
See video master class on sewing the bottom of the dress - it uses a different foot.
