We start with height correction, check the sleeve width to match your expectations and arm thickness. This is especially important in large sizes.

How to determine with a bust tuck or without a tuck?

Larger sizes are strongly recommended to be cut with a chest tuck in any case.

Cause: Armhole without darts is too long, and if you take the size corresponding to the measurement under the bust, then the tension on the chest will either worsen the fit, shifting the balance of the product, or deform the fabric on the chest to an unacceptable look, or wrinkle in front, etc.

For small and medium sizes, both options may be suitable. It follows from the properties of the fabric and from the difference between the two girths of the chest - through the centers of the bulge of the chest and under the chest.

Allowances for a turtleneck dress, which is planned to be sewn with a knitted seam on an overlock, are not needed. If necessary, we add only along the bottom of the dress and sleeves - you will need 2,5 - 3 cm for the hem.

Cutting is carried out in three stages:

1. the first is the back and shelf;
2. the second - sleeves;
3. the third is a collar or strip (inlay) for processing the neck (picture 2).

We fold the fabric in half face inward, first for the back along the width of the back pattern, then for the shelf along the width of the shelf. The edges and folds of the fabric are parallel. We lay the patterns of the shelf and back on the folds and cut them out without allowances for the seams.

We do the same for the sleeve.

The stand-up collar, as mentioned above, is a transverse strip of fabric.

Stand length = Neck length + 2cm or Neck girth + 2cm

The sequence of sewing a turtleneck dress for beginners step by step:

1. If the dress has a tuck, we grind the tucks in a narrow zigzag, without stretching the fabric, then iron the tucks down. If the dress is without darts, we start sewing from the second point.
2. Stitch the shoulders on the overlock. When sewing shoulder seams, place a strip (2 cm wide) of thin stretch so that the seam does not deform in the toe.
3. Iron the shoulder seams.
4. Sew the sleeve on the overlock, distributing the fit evenly. If the dress is without a tuck, the fit will be zero or minimal, and if with a tuck, the fit will appear. If the fit is too large, then the sleeve can be narrowed if desired. In this case, you must first narrow the pattern - lay a vertical fold along the midline from top to bottom, then redraw the sleeve. This method will be relevant for owners of lush breasts, but incomplete or thin arms.
5. Sew the side seams on the overlocker and iron them.
6. Try on a dress. If necessary, the neckline can be trimmed by folding the dress in half and chipping at the seams. To cut the neckline, simply step back from its cut 1 - 3 cm.
7. Trim the collar according to the length of the neckline. The neck can also be processed with a narrow transverse strip 2,5 - 3 cm wide. Processing as for a collar: sew into a ring, iron along in half, sew with a knitted seam. Sew with a decorative stitch or double knitting needle.
8. There are several ways to process the bottom, but the easiest one is to hem with an open cut - overcast on an overlock and hem with an elastic decorative stitch. You can also hem with a double knitting needle - the line looks like a stitcher.
