Features of the pattern of this women's coat with their own hands

The very first step after making the patterns will be to determine the desired length of the sleeve and the coat itself. The choice of length is carried out taking into account the height of the shoulder pad. It is better to compare the length of the shoulder-sleeve seam with the length of a similar section of your favorite coat or jacket.

It is also important to immediately determine how you want to process the bottom of the sleeve and coat. Will the hem be hem or will the hem be left open, or will it be piping.

If there is a hem, then do not forget to add an allowance of 3 - 3,5 cm when cutting for this.

After the issue with the length has been resolved, a preliminary layout can be done to calculate the exact fabric consumption. On the cutting table, lay out a piece of any fabric, the width of which is 140 cm and lay out the patterns on it, as shown in the pictures 2, 3 or 4.

Preliminary layout should be carried out both for fabrics with a pronounced pile direction (pile), and for fabrics in which the pile does not have a directed pile.

For pile fabrics, the “jack” layout is not suitable, since in products made from pile fabrics, the pile must be located in the same direction on all parts (picture 4).

On the drawings 2 и 3 the layout is shown for fabrics on which the pile does not have a direction (boucle, tweed, cloth). The fabric is folded in half across, the details of the shelf and back are stacked taking into account the desired direction of the thread.

In the shelf, the shared thread should coincide with the half-drift line (the middle line of the product). In the back, the share should also coincide with the midline. Please note that the lobar back does not match the middle seam.

If the fabric is piled, then it will not be possible to fold it in half (picture 4).
But the details fit, as in the first case, taking into account the shared direction.

Record the results for tissue consumption. Now you can buy fabric.

Seam allowances - 1 cm on the middle seam of the back, shoulder and side seams. The same 1 cm along the middle seam of the collar. The remaining slices may not be processed in any way or they can be edged. Over the tucks, allowances “houses” should be made so that the tuck easily gets into the shoulder seam.

An allowance is added along the bottom of the sleeve and coat, if only there is a hem.

How to sew this coat with your own hands step by step

Sewing a coat without picks, fasteners and lining does not require serious skills, but it is important to know:

Each seam of such a coat must be carefully ironed through a damp calico folded in half or steamed with a steam iron!

The sewing sequence is as follows:

1. First, the tucks and the middle seam of the back are swept and ground.
2. The middle seam is ironed out, and the tucks are ironed:
   - on the back to the middle seam;
   - on the shelf - to the armhole.
3. Then, the shoulder seams are swept, grinded and carefully ironed.
4. We repeat the same steps with the side seams.
5. In the corners of the side seam, small (up to 0,5 cm) notches can be made.
