Features of sewing with your own hands a-line dress with a one-piece sleeve and a hood

Sewing simple everyday dresses with hoods at home is now easily accessible for beginner couturiers due to the simplification of sewing technology and the development of household sewing equipment.

To complete this model, it is enough to have minimal skills in cutting and sewing, and from sewing equipment you will need an overlocker and a household machine with a zigzag stitch.

As you can see, the pattern of an A-line hoodie dress with a one-piece sleeve is extremely simple (picture 1). But, as usual, before cutting, you should make sure that the length of the product and the length of the sleeve suit you.

If you do not have enough sewing experience to avoid misunderstandings, compare the lengths of the product and the sleeve with another finished product, since taking measurements has its own characteristics and requires skill.

In this model, the measurement of the length of the sleeve is taken from the lateral point of the neck along the shoulder and through the elbow, while the arm can be bent.

Having decided on the length of the dress and sleeves, it is necessary to think over the technology of cutting and sewing. Typically, such products are sewn on an overlock with a knitted seam, the bottom is also processed with an overlock.

Please note that the overlock stitch is not suitable and the products sewn with this seam do not stand up to criticism.

It is desirable to sew this dress model with an average seam. No clasp needed.

About the economy lines in this trapezoid dress pattern and cut it with your own hands

They can be used to cut parts for economical cutting, for a product combined from two fabrics, or for a summer version of a dress.

Now you can proceed to cutting (Figures 2-5).

In either case, the fabric is folded in half facing inward, the edges aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table. Dress patterns fit in the most economical way.

Details are cut out without seam allowances.

Do-it-yourself pattern of a one-piece dress on a wide fabric

First, consider cutting options for wide fabrics 180 cm wide (figures 2 и 3).

The shelf is laid on the fold with a half-slide (middle line), so the fractional thread runs along the middle line of the shelf.

The lobar back should be parallel to the midline of the back. Not the middle seam, but the middle line and is strictly perpendicular to the horizontals of the hips and waist.

It is better to make the hood double and therefore we need 4 parts.

You can lay the face framing line on the fold (picture 2) or half-skid on the fold (picture 3).

Using the option with a half-slide fold (picture 3), you can save a few centimeters of fabric.

A natural question arises: which hood is better?

You should choose by evaluating the location of the seams - a hood with a seam along the half-skid or with a seam along the line of the frame of the face (as in the photo).

Burlap pockets fit arbitrarily. You will need four parts.

Now about cutting from relatively narrow fabrics (figures 4 и 5).

In this case, we can use the economy lines.

Consider picture 4 - it shows cutting of conditionally small sizes (up to 52).

As you can see, the shelf detail does not run entirely across the width of the fabric. We cut off a fragment along the economy line and stack it arbitrarily.

Dress pattern layout for full large sizes (picture 5) differs little from the previous one. Unless the fragments of the pattern of the shelf and back, cut off along the economy line, can be combined into one piece.

When the cutting is completed, you can proceed to sewing the A-line hoodie dress.

How to sew a one-piece dress with a hood with your own hands step by step

1. We will sew, as mentioned earlier, with a knitted seam and a narrow zigzag.
2. It is extremely important to iron every seam. Stitched - ironed or ironed and moved on to the next seam.
3. We start with assembling the hood - it can be done with a narrow zigzag, but it can also be done with a knitted seam.
4. Darts can be stitched, but it is better to lay soft warehouses.
5. One more nuance: the folds on the lower (inner, lining) hood and on the upper hood should not overlap, if you sewed tucks, then their allowances on the upper and lower hoods are ironed in different directions.
6. For example, on the top we iron the tuck allowance in the direction from the middle seam, on the bottom - towards the middle seam.
7. Then we grind and iron the middle seam of the back, as well as the shoulder-sleeve seams on the overlock with a knitted seam.
8. We sew the burlap of the pockets with a knitted seam strictly at the same level on the back and on the shelf, stepping down from the waist by 3-5 cm.
9. After stitching the burlap, stitch the side seams with a knit stitch.
10. It remains only to sew the hood.
11. To facilitate the task, first pin the neck with the hood with needles, aligning the points of the half-skid and the middle seam. Add a couple more pins at random points. After that, the hood can be swept in and stitched on the overlock.
12. The final operation is the bottom. Just overcast it with an overcast or the same knitted seam.
