In this article, we will consider the pattern of the "kimono" base without a chest tuck and how the pattern of a fashionable sweatshirt (sweatshirt) or an oversized pattern of a beautiful and comfortable dress for sizes from 42 to 54 is modeled on this basis.
You can see a drawing of such a base pattern in the figure on the right.
Let's change this base so that it can be used to sew an oversized dress with pockets or a sweatshirt.

- Modeling of a shelf of a pattern of a basis.
- Ready-made oversized pattern of a dress or sweatshirt.

1. Modeling the shelves of the base pattern
Let's make two lines on the shelf that will intersect, let's call them "constructive" for convenience. These lines will also serve as entry lines to the pockets of the future dress.
Let's divide the pattern of the whole shelf in this basis into three fragments:
- The first left fragment of the shelf.
- Second right fragment.
- The third bottom fragment of the shelf.
This approach to modeling reduces, simplifies and cleans up the tailor's work, as the burlap valance will continue the upper left and upper right fragments of the shelf. The burlap pattern for the pockets of the dress must be done separately.
In order to process the intersecting construction lines that we added to the pattern of the base of the dress, we will add a specific allowance, similar to a tuck hole.
The result of this unmodeling of the base pattern, see the pictures on the left and right.
In the spirit of fashion trends, to decorate the final part of the sleeves of the dress, we will use a pattern of a cuff-mittens with protrusions for the thumb. In fact, this is the same rectangle plus protrusions for the finger.
The processing of the neck when sewing such a dress or sweatshirt is best done from cuffed knitted fabric. We will not make a pattern for it, since it is just a rectangle. It is better to cut it when the dress is almost ready. Its length when stretched, it should be equal to the length of the neck.
2. Finished oversized dress or sweatshirt pattern
Electronic oversize dress pattern for printing in full size on sizes from 40 to 52.
In this pdf pattern you get three clothing patterns in one file:
- A ready-made oversized pattern of a cocoon silhouette dress.
- A ready-made oversized pattern of a sweatshirt (sweatshirt), if you shorten the previous one with your own hands by 10 - 15 cm (we check the length according to the base pattern).
- The finished pattern is the basis of a simple dress with a kimono sleeve.
Sewing difficulty level: medium. The style of this dress is ideal for figures with small breasts. Owners of large breasts and inflexible posture are advised to choose a larger size and align the bottom on the fitting, based on the features of the figure.
