A very simple and concise model of a loose asymmetrical dress with a sleeve that does not require tucking.

This dress can be sewn by a beginner home couturier using household sewing machines.

3. What to sew an asymmetric balloon dress from and how much fabric is consumed

It is desirable to sew such a dress from any sufficiently dense, thick or rigid fabric. If the fabric is soft and thin, then the dress will not hold its shape.

For example, for sewing a warm dress, footer, jersey, loden, dress neoprene, jacquard or knitted fabrics of the “sandwich” type with stitch imitation are suitable.

Heavy linen, thick silk, tight knitwear with low stretch are suitable for summer.

Fabric consumption with a width of 150 cm and will be from 190 to 280 cm.

Fabric consumption with a width of 180 cm - from 140 to 190 cm, depending on the size.

To process the neck, you may need a dovyaz (cuff fabric) from 5 to 12 cm.

5. How to cut an asymmetrical cocoon dress according to a simple ready-made pattern

Asymmetric models should be cut with the fabric laid out in one layer and preferably face up. With this approach, it is almost impossible to turn the details of the cut.

No seam allowances are required to sew this model on an overlocker (picture 2). Jack-type layout. Patterns are laid out in the most economical way, observing the shared direction, which should coincide with the middle lines.

After cutting, mark the center lines of the shelf and back. Experienced tailors may limit themselves to notches.

Notches will also be needed for pockets in the side seams.

To make notches for pockets, all four side cuts are folded together and a notch is made on them at waist level, then, from the waist, you need to step back 5 - 7 cm and make another notch - this will be the top point for sewing the pocket burlap.

For the “leaflet” pocket, the details of the burlap are cut out without seam allowances.

The sheet sizes are as follows:

Leaf length in cutting = length in finished form + 2 cm

Width of the leaf in cutting = 2 widths in finished form + 2 cm

The dimensions of the finished leaf, to calculate its size, should be measured according to the drawing.

6. How to sew an asymmetrical overlock dress at home

All stitching is done on an overlock with a knitted seam
It's fast, convenient, and produces strong seams.

Now the sewing sequence.

1. Stitch the upper and lower parts of the back, as well as the upper and lower parts of the front, with a knitted seam, iron the seam down.
2. If a zipper is provided, sew it on. Beginners are advised to choose an overhead zipper. For stitching, make a cut and overcast it on an overlock, apply a zipper braid, baste and topstitch.
3. Finish the pocket(s). For pockets in the side seams - stitch the burlap, focusing on the notches made. For a leaflet, all operations are performed with a straight stitch on a typewriter: iron the leaflet along, sew the burlap-valve, sew the leaflet, sew the second part of the burlap “under the leaflet”, cut the pocket, turn it inside out, fasten the ends of the pocket, iron and stitch the burlap on the overlock, overcast the top pocket cut.
4. Stitch the shoulder seams on the overlock, placing a strip of cooler (or other thin stretch fabric) 2 cm wide so that the shoulder seam only stretches slightly (when the seam does not stretch at all, it’s also bad). Iron the seams.
5. Stitch the sleeve evenly distributing the hem along the armhole. If you want to combine the highest point of the eye with the shoulder point, then pre-stitch the side seams.
6. Stitch and pinch the side seams.
7. Hem the bottom of the dress and sleeves with an open cut - baste, fold and lay a fastening line with a large zigzag, zigzag three, a double needle or a topstitch. Please note that the hem of the bottom should be quite narrow - 1 - 1,5 cm due to the shape of the dress. Advanced tailors who want the “bottom to stand” can process it with a piping and even put a soft reguiline under it.
