Fabric consumption depends not only on the style and the length of the product you have chosen, but also on the cutting option.

How to cut and sew a bat dress with a wrap on the back and front

Let's start by cutting the dresses shown in the photo 1 и 2 .

Attention! This version of the style (photo 1) is NOT comfortable to wear and is considered solely due to the insistent requests of the members of my groups.

Such a dress will not hold on the shoulders without additional details.

When preparing the patterns for cutting, lengthen the patterns of the flared skirt by extending their “vertical” cuts to the length you need (picture 2).

Circle the “bat” bodice pattern twice and, if necessary, shorten the sleeve (just bend it without cutting it off).

As seen on 2 drawing, with this type of layout, an additional triangle is formed between the shoulder sections.

It is desirable to cut it off the back (or just bend the pattern).

Indent on the edge - 2 cm can be duplicated.

Other seam allowances if you are tailoring a dress knitted stitch, you can not add and cut out the details beyond the stroke line of the patterns.

To make the batwing dress with a bodice wrap comfortable, the back should be cut with a regular sprout neckline.

And the shoulder seam will avoid unnecessary stretching (picture 3).

In this case, two layout options are most likely: figure 3a - with a middle seam on the back, figure 3b - with an average seam on ZP.

If you cut this dress with a "sun" skirt of maximum length, the consumption will exceed three meters.

DIY Batwing Dress Pattern with Boat Neckline and Straight Skirt

This style of dress comes from the 80s - Photo 3.

Extend the pattern to the length you need. Layout - "Jack" (picture 4).

Seam allowances - 1 cm, but if you are sewing a dress with a knitted seam, cut out the patterns for the stroke line.

Of course you can make the neckline asymmetrical, but already on trial.

How to sew a batwing dress with a low waist and a voluminous bodice

A dress of this style is shown on Photo 4.

Patterns of clothes of large volumes do not require great accuracy (picture 5), so we lay the patterns at an arbitrary angle to the fold of the fabric.

Of course, the pattern of the dress must be shortened to the level of the hips and circled once with a sprout, and the other with a neck.

The red dotted line shows how to shorten the sleeve, as well as where the assembly for the sleeve will come from.

Skirt - straight literally - a rectangle, the width of which is equal to the volume of the hips.

It is more economical to cut in two steps: fold the fabric along the width of the bodice and cut it out, fold the fabric along the width of the skirt and cut out the skirt.

As you can see, these women's patterns are very multifunctional and will allow you to wipe your nose not only to your girlfriend, but also to your mother-in-law.
