How to cut a straight kimono dress according to a pattern

Cutting is done on one layer of fabric, which is laid out inside out (Fig. 1). Details are stacked in such a way that the share direction coincides with the middle line of the back and with a semi-skid (shelves). In practice, you need to measure in two places of each part the distance from the edge to the half-skid. On fig. 1, these measurements are indicated by curly brackets. In both cases, the distances must be equal.

We choose seam allowances depending on the processing method: 1 cm - for sewing in a zigzag; for the stroke line of the patterns - for sewing with a knitted seam. The exception is the bottom of the product - in any case, add 2 cm. After that, the back and shelf are cut out.

At the level of the waist, it is necessary to make notches 0,5 cm long in order to facilitate the assembly of the dress.

Note 1. If the product will be sewn in a zigzag without an overlock, cut out the parts with serrated scissors.

✂ How to make facings for the neck and armholes

Making facings for processing the neck and armholes (Fig. 2) is a difficult operation for beginners. The most important thing is to choose the right dublerin for the fabric. Thin dubbing for stretch is better.

So, from the doubler for stretch, cut out facings with a width of 4 - 5 cm. To do this, put the patterns on the doubler (DO NOT fold the doubler in half, glue down) and circle the shoulder seams and neck, sprout and armholes, as in fig. 2. Then remove the patterns and set aside the desired piping width from the neckline or sprout.

Attention: in order not to turn over the facings, they should be cut out by turning the patterns down with the inscriptions and applying them to the glueless side of the dublerin. Seam allowances for dublerin parts are not needed.

Put the finished parts of dubbing on the wrong side of the remnants of the fabric and stick with a hot iron. Add 1 cm allowances at the shoulder and side seams for subsequent stitching of the parts, as shown in fig. one.

Note 2. If the fly-away cut of the glued facing will not be overcast on the overlock, it is better to cut it with serrated scissors.

Shoulder (so far only shoulder) cuts of facings to grind and iron. If the departure is overcast, overcast it, if it is cut off, trim it. Neckline and armholes are ready.

Note 3: Professional tailors will wonder why the second seam of the facings has not been stitched? Answer: to simplify the task for beginners.

When the facings are prepared, we proceed directly to the tailoring of the product.

How to sew a bat dress with your own hands

✂ How to sew this straight dress step by step in a zigzag pattern with serrated scissors (“for beginners”):

1. lay warehouses on the right shoulder, sweeping them crosswise;
2. stitch the left shoulder (with folds) and the right side (with a sleeve) sections, combining not only the end and the beginning, but also the notch at the waist in the latter, iron them;
3. turn the armhole and neck: fold face to face, line at a distance of 0,5 cm from the edge, make notches of the allowance so that when turning it out it does not tighten, bend the notched allowance towards the facing from the face of the product and lay the fixing line along the facing at a distance of 1 - 2 mm from the seam, fold the facing inside out and sweep with oblique stitches 1,5–2 cm long, iron;
4. stitch the right shoulder and left side cuts starting from the facing side, carefully aligning the beginning of the seam;
5. bend the bottom of the sleeve and the bottom of the product and iron it, after placing a thermoplastic adhesive edge under the cut, you're done.

Note 4. The author checked the processing of the bottom in stretch products, as they say, on himself. The method, of course, is very far from professionalism, but it can help out people who do not have other technical capabilities. If glued carefully, the products are well tolerated even by machine washing. In any case, gluing flaws are easy to correct when ironing. Disadvantage: not suitable for some types of stretch.

✂ Step-by-step instructions on how to sew a dress with a knitted stitch:

1. lay warehouses on the right shoulder, sweeping them crosswise;
2. stitch the left shoulder (with folds) and the right side (with a sleeve) sections, combining not only the end and the beginning, but also the notch at the waist in the latter, iron them towards the back;
3. turn the armhole and neck: fold face to face, line at a distance of 0,5 cm from the edge, make notches of the allowance so that when turning it out it does not tighten, bend the notched allowance towards the facing from the face and lay the reinforcing line along the facing at a distance of 1 - 2 mm from the seam, bend the facing inside out and sweep with oblique stitches 1,5 - 2 cm long, iron;
4. process the bottom of the product and the bottom of the sleeve with a flat seam (a seam with a rudder or a seam);
5. stitch the right shoulder and left side cuts starting from the facing side, carefully combining the beginning and end of each seam;
6. do the stitching, you're done.
