2. From what to sew such a dress and the design of a pattern of such a style

Description of the design of the sheath dress with pockets and relief

Life-size sleeve pattern for a straight sheath dressThe name of the model speaks for itself - it is a "classic case" of a semi-adjacent silhouette with a relief on the shelf.

Bottom - with a difference in length. Clasp - on the back.

The pocket is located on the side of the shelf, but if desired, you can sew a dress without pockets - the kit includes a one-piece pattern of the side of the shelf.

If you are sewing a dress with pockets, then according to the pattern of the whole barrel, it is worth checking the accuracy of the pocket processing.

A sleeve with an elbow tuck makes it easy to adjust the width of the sleeve at the bottom of the fitting and even make a fastener in the tuck.

What to sew and how to calculate fabric consumption

Most dense, but not too thick fabrics of the dress and suit range will do.

Dress wool, dense stretch with low stretch, linen, denim, heavy silk - all these fabrics are worth sewing a sheath dress.

The consumption with a long sleeve with a width of 140 cm will be from 190 to 260 cm, depending on the size of the dress.

4. How to cut a sheath dress with pockets according to a finished pattern

Let's start with the fact that you can cut the facings for the neck both according to the patterns of the back and shelves, and according to the details of the back and shelves.

What is the advantage of cutting facings in detail?

This can be done after the fitting, when the neck line is corrected during the fitting. This approach is recommended for girls and women who love deep necklines.

Open the facings for the dress case according to the finished patternIn both cases, cutting is performed without taking into account seam allowances. On the 2 drawing cutting according to the patterns of the back and shelves is shown.

A separate consideration is the "docking" of the facing with the selection.

Looking at the markings on the back, you will see the following lines:

  1. Center back line.
  2. Edge of the board.
  3. The line of the edge of the selection.

Such a markup is needed to facilitate the processing of the fastener - bend the side twice and secure with a finishing or hidden stitch.

On the 2 drawing this double hem is shown and the facing of the back, which should be cut from the doubler, should “join” this double hem.

In other words, we cut out the facing for the sprout (the neck of the back) butt to the edge of the hem of the side and without allowances for the seams.

For the neck of the shelf - just without seam allowances.

Let me remind you that we will add seam allowances later, when we glue the dublerin blanks onto the fabric and cut them out. We will add allowances only at the junction of the parts of the facings (picture 2).

This approach allows, with a lack of fabric, to cut out facings from a larger number of parts and easily assemble them into one.

About vytachnyh slots on a relief.

Blanks for slots - a rectangle, a strip - we also cut out the slots without seam allowance and exactly the size.

For example, 14 by 3 cm or 12 by 2,5 cm. The size of the blank for the slots depends on the size and number of buttons.

Laying out patterns on fabric for a do-it-yourself pattern of a straight dress caseYou will need four (two pairs) of rectangle blanks, which, in the process of cutting, will need to be attached to the relief of the shelf (picture 3).

This is the easiest way to "deal with the slot".

Further, everything is even simpler - allowances of 1 - 1,2 cm, except for the neck, eyelet and armhole. We DO NOT add allowances along the cuts of the neck, eyelets and armholes!

We lay out the patterns taking into account the allowances for the seams and the shared direction.

Having cut out the details of the shelf and back, notches at the entrance to the pocket, along the waist and along the darts, as well as on the neck of the shelf along the half-slip. We outline the semi-skid (middle line of the shelf) with a thread (interlining stitch) so that it is preserved until the product is ready.

The middle line of the back should also be marked with a thread, this will greatly facilitate the sewing process.

We cut out the facing blanks last, that is, when all the other details are cut out. We impose them and glue them and add allowances at the junctions of the fragments of the facings, as on 2 drawing.

5. How to sew a straight sheath dress with pockets with your own hands step by step

  1. We start with the processing of the sides - we bend the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe hem of the edge and iron it, we bend the edge and iron it, we sweep each edge.
  2. We process the pocket and sweep at the entrance.
  3. We process the tuck and relief, as well as the sleeve.
  4. We sweep the side and shoulder seams, put the sides of the back on top of each other, aligning the middle line of the back, which you outlined during the cutting process, we sweep, leaving enough to put on the dress.
  5. Fitting. If the dress is to be worn with a shoulder pad, it should be pinned up at the shoulder seam. We put on a sleeveless dress, check the balance, fit, neckline, armhole. If necessary, we make adjustments and put on the dress again.
  6. We put on the sleeve, mark on the armhole and the collar three points of joining of the sleeve-armhole for tucking. We take off the dress and weave in the sleeve. Again we try on and mark up several loops (details below). This approach allows you to qualitatively try on the case at a time.
  7. After trying on, we process the shoulder and side seams, we sew the sleeve. The tuck slot is processed according to the “pocket” type - the section of the slot is swept up, and the seam goes along the outer edge of the dubbing. The seam of the relief, of course, is ironed.
  8. Further, the processing of the neck and bottom into a hem with an open cut - overcast and fold once. Please note that before processing the bottom, you need to process the bottom of the sides by “turning” them inside out and sewing along the bottom line.
  9. Loops and buttons. As you already understood, there is no need to make a fastener to the very bottom. Enough 3 - 4 loops on top. Consider the nuances of marking the loops for this dress. The loop must be in the fullest place of the figure, in this case at chest level and preferably in the thinnest place - at the waist. The remaining loops are in between.
  10. After weaving out the loops and fixing the bands, we perform the finishing ironing of the product.
  11. Lastly, we mark the remaining buttons and it remains only to sew them on.

If the selection was not duplicated for buttons that are fastened (in dresses it is often not advisable to duplicate it, so as not to create unnecessary rigidity), then it is advisable to sew on the buttons (flat, diameter 1 - 1,2 cm) or place / glue a piece of interlining approximately the size of the button. Of course, underlining or gluing should be done BEFORE fixing the bands. Here is such an “insurance” against deformation of the sides in the fastener area.
