How to cut and sew a boho hoodie A-line dress with your own hands
- We start with the correction of the length - we compare it with our favorite dress or measure ourselves and the shelf from the side point of the neck down.
- If it is necessary to lengthen the pattern, we cut it horizontally between the armhole and the waist and spread the parts of the pattern to the desired length (picture 2). It is even easier to shorten the pattern - lay a horizontal warehouse between the armhole and the waist.
- Further preparation for cutting will require you to decide on the option for processing the hood.
- The hood can be double or single with a hem that frames the face. With a double hood, the "lower" hood can be made from a companion fabric or from a lining fabric.
- As a lining fabric, you can use a thin cotton shirting fabric in a contrasting color or to match the main fabric.
- Seam allowances for stable fabrics such as linen are as follows: 1 - 1,2 cm is added to the shoulder, side, front and back seams of the sleeve, to the sections of the hood (except for the neckline); we do not add allowances to the neck, sprout, armhole, sleeve collar and to the neck of the hood. At the bottom of the dress and sleeves, add 2,5 - 3 cm for the hem.
- An allowance can be added to the burlap part or not added. It all depends on what size pocket you need.
- About the direction of the share thread: for the front, back and sleeve, the share line coincides with their midlines.
- That is, we lay the shelf and the back with a half-slide and the middle line, respectively, on the fold of the fabric or the edge.
- We fold the sleeve template in half lengthwise, aligning the front-back sections, and we get the middle line, which should be parallel to the edge or fold of the fabric.
- At the hood, the lobar thread can be located both along the cut of the face and along the half-slide. But there will be no violation of the technology if the half-skid of the hood or the cut of the face is on an oblique thread. So, for this part, we choose the most economical layout option.
- Another important point is the middle seam of the back. Its presence worsens the appearance of the product, and its absence increases consumption.
- Consider a layout with a medium back seam for small and medium sizes (picture 3) and layout without middle seam (picture 4).
- For seam cutting (picture 3) the fabric is folded in half face to face, the edges are aligned, the patterns are laid out in the most economical way.
- For cutting without a seam (picture 4) the fabric is folded in half along the width of the shelf, as shown in the bubble. The back and shelf are laid on the fold and cut out. The rest of the fabric can be cut in a turn, but can be folded across for the sleeve and hood.
- At the last stage of cutting, notches for pockets should be put. To do this, fold all 4 side cuts together and, stepping back from the waist down 5-7 cm, put the first notch. Attach the cut burlap to the notch with the pocket entry line and put the second notch.
