How to cut a sheath dress according to a finished pattern

With all the variety of such dresses, they are cut almost the same.

Small and medium sizes, as they say, "pass" in one width of the fabric (picture 2).

For large - consumption increases to almost two product lengths (picture 3).

Seam allowances:

1. On the reliefs, side and shoulder seams, on the front and back seams of the sleeve - 1 cm.
2. The bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeve - 2,5 - 3 cm.

The neckline, sprout and armhole are cut out beyond the outline line of the pattern.

If you choose the "wide" sleeve option (Photo 1), you will need a very thin fabric for this sleeve (chiffon or cambric), while the dress should be sewn from a denser fabric.

Please note that the fit of the sleeve of this model should be carried out around the entire sleeve length - both above the arm and under the arm.

Of course, the distribution of landing should not be uniform.

Gather the top edge more than the bottom.

It is better to correct the shape of the neck on the fitting (Photo 2).

How to cut a jacket for a dress according to the same pattern

In case you decide to sew a set with a jacket (Photo 3), to cut the latter, choose a pattern a couple of sizes larger than the dress pattern.

The cutting of the jacket differs slightly from the cutting of the dress (picture 4):

1. First, the length of the patterns.
2. Secondly, the need to carve out a one-piece selection.

- lay the shelf 5 - 6 cm from the fold of the fabric, as shown in 4 drawing;

This is a good model for beginners to sew with their own hands - to gain experience and improve their sewing skills.

How can I use this pattern for modeling

And in conclusion, consider the changes that young extravagant girls can make to women's patterns.

Many of them do not like dresses in which the skirt is straight.

Narrowing a skirt is quite simple, but for this you need to know in advance how long your product will be.

We make the narrowing of the dress pattern down from the level of the hips (picture 5) along the side cuts.

For other cuts, it is IMPOSSIBLE to NOW!

The optimal value is 2 cm on each side.

In addition, the side seam should be lengthened, otherwise the bottom line will not be straight.

It is not recommended to make a slot in dresses or skirts narrowed to the bottom, as it immediately “breaks” the silhouette and deforms rather quickly.
