How to cut a stretch dress with pockets according to a ready-made simple pattern

The style of this dress is quite simple and suitable for those who are just learning to cut and sew and have only basic skills.

No seam allowance is required if you are going to sew from stretch with a knit stitch.

Does this dress need a zipper? If the fabric and seams are elastic enough, then no.

Before cutting, check the length of the product and compare with the length of your favorite dress. If desired the skirt of the dress can be shortened or lengthened, extending or shortening the center lines and side seams.

The cut of this A-line dress has several options, which depend on the size of the product and the desire to save fabric.

The fabric is folded in half face to face, the edges are aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

Option 1 cut a large-sized trapezoid dress according to a do-it-yourself patternPatterns are stacked in the most economical way. Please note that the three parts of this model have a fold, that is, when cutting, they are located on the fold of the fabric.

On the 2 drawing shown cutting small and medium sizes and there are no nuances or difficulties.

But cutting large sizes, has options (drawings 3 и 4).

How to cut this plus size dress with an embroidered sleeve

Consider the option with a dotachka on the sleeve (picture 3):

  1. When the details are laid out on the fabric, the sleeve pattern is cut.
  2. The dotachka is cut out with a double seam allowance - 1,5 - 2 cm.
  3. After stitching the stitching and ironing the seam, the sleeve is adjusted along the whole pattern.
  4. Let me remind you that the basing is the exact correction of the shape of the part or the alignment of the cut. To set up means to cut, to cut out very precisely, to trim.

How to cut this dresses for plus size one piece sleeves

Option for cutting a large size dress with a one-piece sleeve (picture 4) is carried out in three stages:

  1. First, the details of the back are cut out, and then the shelves and sleeves.
  2. So, first, the fabric is folded in half, the edges are combined.
  3. The details of the back are stacked "jack" and cut out in the usual way.
  4. Then, the fabric is folded in half along the width of the shelf details - see the diagram in the bubble on 4 drawing.
  5. You can also fold the fabric separately for the top of the shelf and cut it out, and then for the bottom.
  6. For the sleeve, the fabric is folded across.

How to determine the lobar thread of the sleeve? Fold the sleeve pattern lengthwise, aligning the cuts. The fold line is shared for this sleeve. This rule works for all symmetrical sleeves.

How to sew a stretch A-line dress with pockets

Option to cut the dress for the full pattern of large sizes of the dress trapezoidEven if you sew this dress with your own hands at home, you cannot do without elastic seams:

  1. We start sewing with the processing of the pocket.
  2. Aligning the midpoints of the shelf parts, pin them with a pin. It is enough to stitch the seam of the pocket on the overlock with a knitted seam, but such a complex line will be quite difficult to “steer” on the overlock, so you can first stitch the pocket with a narrow zigzag and then overcast. In this case, it is better to make the width of the seam minimal - 0,5 - 0,7 cm.
  3. After stitching the seam of the pocket, carefully iron it down.
  4. Sew the middle seam of the upper back on the overlocker and iron it.
  5. Then, pin the middle point of the bottom of the back with the middle seam of the top and sew them also with a knitted seam and iron the allowance down.
  6. Now you can sew the shoulder seams. When grinding them, do not forget to put an “edge” under it. Many masters recommend gluing the shoulder sections with a dolevic, this is not true, since the shoulder section in stretch products should remain slightly elastic.
  7. Therefore, instead of a dolevik, you can get by with a strip of thin stretch or a strip of stretch dublerin. The seams stitched on the overlock are carefully ironed.
  8. You can process the neck in two ways: by turning or by a strip of fabric - inlay.
  9. Watch the video on sewing how to process the neck with a piping
  10. I will only add that the facings can be cut out according to the same patterns of the back and shelves. It's very simple.
  11. Processing the neckline with an inlay is even simpler (see photo 2 and figure 3 on the link page).
  12. Sewn A-Line Stretch Dress with Pockets according to the Pattern PhotoThen, we move on to stitching the sleeves. The sleeve in this dress model is non-stop, that is, it does not need to be sewn in - we immediately sew it in! The seam is ironed down.
  13. Watch the video master class on how to sew a sleeve without stitching
  14. Then we grind the side seams on the overlock and iron them to the back.
  15. The bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the dress can be processed into an open hem - folded once, using a cover stitch, a wide zigzag, a double needle stitch or any elastic decorative stitch.
