The consumption of fabric for a dress with a long sleeve is from 160 to 210 cm. This is while maintaining the length of the pattern and the width of the fabric is 140 cm.

For sewing this A-line dress, thin stretch with high or medium stretch is optimal. Stretch jersey type can be considered less suitable.

Attention! To sew a turtleneck-trapeze dress, you will need an overlocker with knitted seam settings or a sewing machine that performs a zigzag stitch that is adjustable in width and density.

Do-it-yourself pattern features for beginners trapezoid turtleneck dresses with sleeves

Pattern do-it-yourself A-line dress with medium-sized sleevesThe task of sewing stretch at home has been greatly simplified due to the widespread use of overlockers with the ability to customize knit stitches.

See my article for beginners what kind of seams can be sewn stretch.

Another nice simplification is that the stretch is cut out without seam allowances, it is enough just to observe the share direction.

On the 2 drawing shows a layout for a do-it-yourself pattern of small and medium-sized dresses with a sleeve.

On the 3 drawing do-it-yourself dress pattern for full large sizes.

When cutting, the fabric, as usual, is folded in half face inward, the edges are aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

The lobar back is parallel to the midline and perpendicular to the horizontal of the waist, the lobar shelves coincide with the half-slip (middle line), the lobar sleeves are along the part.

Burlap can be stacked arbitrarily, but it is better that the share was parallel to the entrance to the pocket.

DIY collar pattern in this dress

A turtleneck collar, as a rule, is cut out in the form of a rectangle and processed in the same way as a cuff - it is ground into a “pipe”, ironed in half and sewn into the neck.

True, there is one “but” here - the stand should be tight-fitting enough and at the same time easy to put on over your head. This problem can be solved not only due to the strong extensibility of the stretch and the good elasticity of the line.

How to cut with your own hands according to a pattern for full-length a-line dress with a large sleeveThe solution to easily put on a dress due to the fastening at the back when sewing a dress with your own hands seems to be the simplest. The clasp is small enough in length - 10 - 12 cm, including the height of the stand, so that the dress can be easily put on. It can be both a zipper and buttons on air loops.

And the fit of the collar around the neck can provide both good stretchability of the fabric and its design.

It is no coincidence that the set of patterns includes a stand-up collar - it is perfect for knitted fabric with medium stretch. You can cut it out along the transverse thread (picture 2) or obliquely (picture 3).

Calculation of the size of the pattern with your own hands of the classic "pipe" collar for a turtleneck

If you decide to cut a classic "pipe" collar for a turtleneck, it is not difficult to calculate its dimensions.

The length of the strip of the "pipe" collar = the length of the neck of the product minus 2 cm

Width of the stripe collar "pipe" = double the width of the finished collar + 1,5 cm

The fractional direction of the "pipe" collar depends on the properties of the stretch. If the fabric stretches more in the transverse direction, then the collar strip should also be cut across (Fig. 2). If the fabric stretches better in the lobar direction, then the lobar should run along the strip (Fig. 3). Oblique direction is also possible.

Attention! The collar should be cut AFTER processing the shoulder and middle seams, measuring the length of the neck without stretching the product. In individual tailoring, this applies to collars of ANY design and shape.

How to cut and how to sew this dress step by step

  1. We start by cutting the shelves, back, sleeves and burlap, put off the collar.
  2. We grind the middle seam of the back with a knitted seam, if necessary, then leave 5-7 cm unstitched at the top for fastening. We grind the shoulder seams by placing an edge so that they do not stretch.
  3. Photo of a tailored trapeze turtleneck dress according to a medium-sized patternWe iron the stitched seams.
  4. We edge the section for the fastener or process it with a facing.
  5. We sew the sleeve, since the sleeve is non-stop, then it is not necessary to tuck it in.
  6. We sew the burlap pockets, retreating along the side seam down from the waist by 5 - 7 cm. It is very important that all the burlaps are sewn at the same level.
  7. We iron the seams.
  8. Then we grind the side-sleeve-pocket seams in one motion and iron them.
  9. Watch the video master class for beginners how to sew a sleeve without tucking in.
  10. Now it's the turn of the collar. We grind the processed stand-up collar or ironed along the “pipe” into a “ring” and iron the seam of the connection. This is if your dress will be without fasteners. Or we process the ends, if the fastener is provided.
  11. After that, the collar is sewn into the neck. For ease of stitching, the collar and neck are cleaved off with tailor's pins. With the first pin we cut off the middle point of the neck and the middle point of the collar, with the second and third pins - the middle point of the half of the neck (it should not coincide with the shoulder seam) and the middle point of the half of the collar.
  12. After sewing in the collar, we iron the seam, and if desired, we fix it with an elastic decorative stitch or stitch it with a double needle.
  13. Please note that all dress assembly operations can be performed on an overlock with a knitted seam.
  14. See how to set up an overlocker for sewing knitwear at home
  15. We complete the sewing of the turtleneck dress by processing the bottom.

How to process the bottom of a turtleneck A-line dress when sewing

In such products, processing the bottom is possible in two ways - in a hem with an open cut (fold it once and hem it) and an opik.

When sewing to the hem, you can use either a cover stitch or a double needle stitch.

A twin needle is cheaper and easier to use than a stitcher and a rug. The only caveat when choosing is to buy a double needle for sewing stretch - the word “STRETCH” should be written on the package.

And they are great for picking, like a rolled seam (a seam with a rudder), which is performed on an overlock, or a pickling seam made using a special “snail” foot.
