Description of the free pattern, consumption and choice of fabric for sewing a boho skirt
The length of the skirt shown in the photo, along the midline of the wedge (Du) - 81,5 - 90,5 cm, depending on the size.
The set of skirt patterns includes
- Wedge - a whole wedge for a regular six-blade
- Upper part of skirt wedge with cutting wedge
- The lower part of the wedge with a bevel, as in the photo
- The lower part of the wedge for a skirt with a flat bottom
How to choose size
Three sizes available - small, medium and large.
When choosing a size, you need to take into account not only the circumference of the customer's waist, but also the properties of the fabric.
For example: for a size 40 maxi skirt, you can use the largest size for sewing a cambric or very thin gauze skirt, achieving a very tight gathering.
For a medium density assembly, use the formula:
Waist circumference x 1,5 = waist cut length 6 wedges
For tight assembly:
Waist circumference x 2 = waist cut length 6 wedges
Of course, it is not worth achieving high accuracy of multiplication results, since the density of the assembly will also depend on the properties of the fabric. In addition, the number of wedges you may have is different - 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 - at your discretion. But six in this case, the optimal average and the value we are used to.
Length correction is best done by shortening the top of the wedge from above or below.
From what to sew a boho skirt and fabric consumption
As for the fabrics for sewing a boho skirt from wedges, it is advisable to choose from thin cotton or linen fabrics.
As mentioned earlier, cambric and gauze will do. Staple, chintz and linen will look good in this product. Chiffon, reaper and very thin knitwear are also possible.
In fabrics that are subject to deformation and stretching, it must be taken into account that the length under the weight of the skirt may increase. This is especially true for stretch.
The approximate consumption of fabric will be from 190 to 260 cm with a width of 140 - 150 cm. This is for the model shown in the photo - the lower part of the wedge with a bevel.
To accurately determine the consumption, you should make a preliminary layout of the patterns (preferably before buying fabric). Pre-layout can be done on any available piece of fabric.

Features of cutting and sewing a wedge skirt
Perhaps the main feature and main convenience of this style is the ability not to adhere to accuracy in the volume of the product.
You can add to the seams if you want to keep the width of the wedge or not add if the width needs to be reduced.
Since the seam allowances will be 1 cm, the difference in volume with and without allowances will be 12 cm (allowances for 6 wedges on both sides).
But in any case, the waist allowance is not added.
Layout options are shown in fig. 2-4.
Please note that it is much more economical to cut this style by spreading the fabric in a turn (in one layer).
When laying out, arrange the parts in such a way that the fractional direction coincides with the center line of the parts marked on the drawing. In other words, the center line must be strictly parallel to the edge.
And it is very important not to confuse the “face” with the wrong side.
Now more about each layout option.
For cutting a skirt with a large wedge, see the layout in fig. 2. The economy belt can be made from parts.
On fig. 3 shows the economic layout. If the width of the fabric allows, the pattern of the upper part of the wedge can be cut along the middle and laid on the lunge of the material. Do not forget to add 1 cm allowances along the cut line so that the wedge does not become narrower. In this case, you may have to add a few centimeters for the belt.
On fig. 4 shows the cutting of small sizes. The belt can be solid or made of parts.
Now about how to cut a belt to a skirt. A belt is a strip of fabric with a length, depending on the processing option.
Let's look at the possible belt options:
- Belt at the waist - the length in the cut is equal to the circumference of the waist plus 10 cm
- Elasticated waist - the length in the cut is equal to the length of the waist section of the finished skirt plus 2 cm
- Belt with an elastic band "slimming" (code name) - the length in the cut is equal to the girth of the hips plus 4-6 cm.
And the width of the belt detail is in any case equal to twice the width of the finished belt plus 2 cm.
Sequence for sewing a skirt with wedges
- Perform assembly along the bottom of the wedges.
- Sew the top and bottom of the wedges, overcast or edging and iron the seam.
- Overcast the “vertical” sections, but if you make the skirt exactly the same as in the photo, then the sections of the spacers and the bottom should be sewn or processed with a rolled seam first, and the upper part of the sections can be overcast or edged. Cm. machine seams
- Then, stitch and iron the seams.
- Iron along the blank of the belt and process it as you planned.
Now separately about how to process the belt.
As mentioned above, you have three options in cutting. And you can process the belt in only two ways - “like a pencil skirt” or “like panties” with a regular linen elastic band.
