Boho A-line Dress Pattern with Frill

The set of patterns for a boho trapeze dress with a frill includes (picture 1):

Ruffles are rectangular strips of fabric and are therefore not included. How to cut frills is described below.

Approximate consumption for a trapeze dress with a fabric width of 140 - 150 cm, depending on the size, length of the frill, the presence or absence of a sleeve, will be from 150 to 300 cm.

For sewing, it is desirable to use stable natural fabrics such as linen, dress wool, jeans, chintz and poplin. Gauze or staple may also work. Silk, viscose are also suitable. You can experiment with a medium stretch stretch. The only strict requirement is that the fabric should not be too loose and heavy, since the frill has a significant volume.

The biggest difficulty that lies in wait for a home couturier when sewing a simple A-line dress with a frill is the calculation of fabric consumption.

To calculate the exact consumption, make patterns and immediately select the length of the bodice and the length of the sleeve (if there is a sleeve), determine the length of the frill (see photo 1, 2 or 3).

The cost formula looks something like this:

Shelf bodice length + Sleeve length + 2 frill lengths

But, as they say, there are options. Therefore, before buying a fabric, it is advisable to lay out the finished patterns of the desired length, simulating the layout, in order to determine the exact consumption.

Before cutting, the owners of magnificent forms must decide whether they need a bust tuck.

Let me remind you that the absence of a chest tuck visually increases the volume of the figure at the top, without emphasizing the line of the shoulders.

Such a bodice, combined with a lush frill, can do a disservice.

We begin work on a boho trapeze dress, as mentioned above, by choosing the length of the dress and sleeves. Then, according to the patterns of the shelf and back, it is necessary to cut out the facings from the duplicating material - dublerin or interlining (picture 2).

✂ Options for cutting facings

On the picture 2 most of the possible options for cutting out facings are shown.

Let me remind you that it is more convenient to first cut the facings from dublerin without seam allowances, then stick them on the fabric and add the necessary allowances.

Please note that allowances are added only at the junction of the parts of the facings with each other. In this case, 1 cm along the middle, shoulder and side seams.

This method is more accurate and takes less time. And another important advantage is the simplicity when cutting dotachek. It is enough just to cut the dubbing blanks in the place of additional stitching and, after gluing, add 1 cm seam allowances in the place of the cut.

For a sleeveless jacket, we choose option “a” - the facings for the sprout-armhole and the neck-armhole are solid.

A dress with sleeves will require option "b" - turning the sprout and neck.

For owners of magnificent forms, who have chosen the style of a shelf with a chest tuck, the facing will consist of two fragments that can be combined directly when pasted onto the fabric.

Shireina facing in cutting in any case 3,5 - 4 cm.

The seam allowances for this trapezoid model are the usual: 1 cm along the shoulder and side seams, while we do not add allowances along the sprout, neckline and armhole, as well as along the hem of the sleeve.

For burlap, an allowance may or may not be added, depending on how large you need the pocket.

Cutting, if you save fabric, is not difficult, although for beginners in learning to cut and sew, the proposed cutting sequence may seem confusing.

✂ Step-by-step cutting sequence for beginners:

1. First, fold the fabric in half face to face, matching the edges and marking the width of the frill (picture 3). For a lush frill or for large sizes, we mark two strips wide
   Finished frill length + hem + 1 cm, where the hem is 3 - 4 cm.
2. Then, we apply a shelf and a sleeve - we check if we messed up with the consumption of fabric. If not confused, cut off the frills.
3. We bend the fabric on both sides to get two folds, separately for the shelf and for the back. After adding allowances, cut out.
4. We fold the fabric for the sleeve or for the sleeve and burlap, add allowances and cut out.
5. On the remnants of the fabric we glue the blanks of the facings cut from the doubler.
6. Add seams and cut out.

The cutting sequence for large sizes may look different - picture 4:

1. We fold the fabric along the width of the shelf, forming a fold on one side, the edges are parallel.
2. We lay the shelf and back, next we mark and cut off one strip on the frill.
3. Having cut out the shelf and back, cut the rest of the fabric next to them into a frill.
4. At the end, cut out the sleeve and burlap.
5. From the remains - turning.
