"I don't like the way it sits. Something is wrong with the smell and with the trousers. Maybe this is not my model. I'll unpick it. I used a 2-thread footer. Thank you very much for the pattern! Any experience is also an experience. It's better to try and get an unsatisfactory result than dreaming about this jumpsuit and not doing it."

4. How to cut a jumpsuit from a stretch fabric according to a pattern

As mentioned above, products made of stretch fabric are sewn with a knitted seam on an overlock, using a narrow zigzag, a double needle or a cover stitch.

What is a knitted stitch and how not to confuse it with an overcast overlock stitch

So, this jumpsuit, like other products made of stretch fabrics, is cut out without allowances. How to cut a jumpsuit with a stretch shawl collaron the seams (drawings 2 и 3).

We lay the hem of the bottom of the sleeve and the bottom of the trousers immediately in length when cutting, when we adapt the pattern for growth. For a hem of 2,5 - 3 cm will be enough.

Calculation of the cuff rectangle in the nest for stretch or cuff

Cut-out cuff length = Wrist (or ankle) circumference + 1 cm.

Cut-to-length cuff width = 2 finished widths + 2 cm

The layouts show the cuffs that fell on the fold of the fabric.

Another stripe detail is a drawstring for pulling a lace or elastic band.

The width of the drawstring detail in the cut is 3,5 - 4 cm, taking into account the hem.

Length = waist circumference.

For the drawstring, you can use a knitted oblique trim or any elastic band.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the share direction when cutting the collar - it can be located along the collar or across. The share of the collar will not be of great importance for this.

Pay attention also to how to cut trousers.

How to cut a jumpsuit from a stretch according to a finished pattern option 2They can be cut without cutting out the area of the gap, that is, cut it out later (picture 2) or cut immediately when cutting.

If the part of the trousers does not fit the width of the fabric, then the protruding wedge of the pattern can be cut off and cut out by placing it in another place (picture 3).

In this case, we add a double allowance to the wedge - up to 1,5 cm. And after stitching it to the trousers, do not forget to compare the trousers with the whole pattern.

After cutting, we mark the semi-skid with a thread in order to combine these lines when sewing.

We make notches along the midline of the back of the bodice, which can be cut both in one piece and with a middle seam.

By the way, about the middle seam of the back. If you doubt the extensibility of the fabric and the seams of your product, then you can sew a zipper along the middle seam of the back and collar.

And the last notch, which is necessary for assembly at the “shoulder point”, which is marked on the collar. It corresponds to the lateral point of the neck and the beginning of the shoulder seam.

5. How to sew a stretch jumpsuit at home

Let's start by setting up the overlock, as it is extremely important that all seams are elastic.

See how to set up an overlocker and sew knitwear at home.

In fact, sewing this jumpsuit model comes down to three points:

  1. Pants assembly. See how to sew stretch trousers using the example of sewing similar men's trousers and separately how to sew pockets in stretch pants.
  2. The assembly of the bodice.
  3. The connection of the bodice and trousers, the processing of the drawstring.

5.1. Let's take a closer look at the assembly of the bodice

  1. Stitch shoulder seams on overlock using a strip of fine stretch fabric. The strip is 1,5 cm wide. The seam should remain elastic, but be tight enough. Iron it.
  2. Sew in sleeves on overlock, evenly distributing sleeve over the armhole. Press on the seam.
  3. Stitch side seam on overlock, press iron on.
  4. Stitch the collar with a narrow zigzag. Iron on.
  5. Sew the collar into the neckline on the overlock, tighten the seam.
  6. Try on the bodice separately from the trousers. For fitting, the bodice is pulled back so as to combine the half-crotch. It is possible that due to the peculiarities of the posture in front or behind the bodice will be shorter or longer than necessary. It is advisable to align the bottom of the bodice on the figure.
  7. After trying on the bodice, you can process and stitch the cuffs.

5.2. Now about the connection of the bodice and trousers

The easiest connection option is to stitch a strip of the drawstring detail to the bottom of the bodice, and sew trousers to it.

At the same time, it is important to combine the middle lines of the back with the seam of the seat, the half-waist with a bow and the side seams of the bodice with the dart of the trousers. Combine through a strip of fabric - bodice - strip of fabric (drawstring) - trousers.

After that, all that remains is to "close" the open seams with the second strip of fabric from the inside out. Apply and stitch, pull in the elastic.

This is the simplest processing option.
