In the set striped dress patterns includes patterns shelves и backrests (Fig. 1 on the left), and in a set of patterns sundress with polka dots (Fig. 1 on the right) are included shelf, lower back (skirt) and upper back (bodice).
Both styles of sundresses are designed for slender girls.
For sewing, it is desirable to use medium stretch stretch. For edging cuts and straps, both a rubber “oblique trim” and a do-it-yourself stretch oblique trim are suitable. But when sewing a “striped sundress”, you can use removable adjustable straps (both decorative and color-matched straps), which sold in fabric stores. "Sundress with polka dots" can be sewn using wide elastic bands. See below for cutting and sewing details.
Consumption is equal to the length of the product (Di), which is easier to determine from the pattern. But to choose which Di you need, you can only take a measurement of Du (skirt length) on the side of the figure from the waist down to the desired length.

How to cut your own sundresses from stretch fabrics
Stretch is very easy to cut - no seam allowances are needed, except for processing the bottom. But the stretch tends to stretch under its own weight, so you can not even add to the hem.
The fabric is folded twice the width of the layout face to face, the edges are parallel to each other and the edge of the table. That is, for the rest, for knitwear, the same rules for cutting techniques are the same as for stable fabrics, except for one more “but”.
As you know, when cutting, it is very important to follow the direction of the shared thread. For stretch, this is also important, but in some cases a transverse thread is taken for the lobar thread. Sometimes such a "turn" of the cut is associated with a pattern. For example, cutting fabrics with coupon padding, when the pattern runs parallel to the edges, you can do it "across". Or cutting fabrics with less transverse stretch.
Cutting the model of "striped sundress" is shown in fig. 2, and the "polka-dot sundress" - fig. 3.
We cut out WITHOUT seam allowances for the stroke line of the parts, which will give us an actual allowance of 0,5 cm, that is, an allowance equal to the width of the knitted seam.
How to sew stretch sundresses with your own hands
Sewing a "striped sundress" step by step:
- grinding the tuck with a narrow zigzag, followed by ironing;
- stitching the side seams and the middle seam with a knitted seam, followed by ironing;
- armhole cut processing by edging or stitched inlay with ironing;
- processing of the upper cut between the straps with the transition to straps or loops for attaching detachable straps
- bottom processing with an open cut (single hem).
By the way, edging the cut with a stretch trim, which is cut out “across” from the main fabric, or a rubber “oblique trim” suggests the presence of special devices for overlock and developed skills in working with stretch and devices.
А trimming with a stitched inlay (photo 2, fig. 3 at the link) from the same fabric is extremely simple.

When sewing a “polka dot sundress”, you can also use a stitched inlay.
How to sew a sundress with polka dots step by step:
- stitch with a knitted seam and iron the shoulder seams;
- process the cut of the neckline of the back and the neck with a stitched inlay or in another convenient way;
- process the armhole with a stitched inlay or edging;
- sew in a narrow zigzag and iron the seam of the connection of the back bodice with the skirt;
- sew a wide elastic band to the upper cut of the back skirt with a zigzag patch stitch, putting the elastic band on top of the face of the skirt, while the elastic band should go from one side seam to the other, then bend the elastic band and secure it with another zigzag or stitching stitch;
- stitch and iron the side seams with a knitted seam;
- process the bottom with an open cut (single hem).
I will add a few words about the processing of the bottom. It can be hemmed with both a backstitch and other elastic stitches that are found in household sewing machines.
See video master class how to set up a cover stitch. There are no fundamental differences between the setting of the stitcher and the coverlock.
Also see video tutorial on how to replace the cover stitch.
