The difficulty level of sewing this sundress is medium. Cutting and sewing this model for beginner couturiers can be too complicated, as calculations and skills will be needed. The style is only suitable for young slender girls and women.

Pattern sundress "marshmallow" 40-54 pic1The set of patterns of a sundress "marshmallow" includes (Fig. 1):

bodice patterns - middle and side, as well as a pattern of the upper part of the "sun" skirt.

The lower part of the skirt is a strip of fabric and therefore is not included in the set of patterns. See the description below for cutting features.

For sewing a marshmallow sundress, you can use any dense and even hard fabrics, but not necessarily neoprene. Thick denim, jacquard sandwich, dress rep, heavy silk, etc. are also suitable.

The cost of a sundress depends on the size and choice of fabric for lining the bodice (whether the "lower bodice" will be made from the fabric of the "top" or from another fabric).

Pattern sundress "marshmallow" 40-54 pic2We calculate the flow rate by adding the following values:

on the bodice + the upper part of the "sun" skirt = from 90 to 100 cm;

on the bottom of the skirt = 60 cm;

on the "lower" bodice = from 30 to 40 cm.

Thus, the consumption with a width of 150 cm will be from 150 to 200 cm.

Cutting and sewing a marshmallow sundress at home with your own hands

Pattern sundress "marshmallow" 40-54 pic3Cutting with seeming simplicity requires accurate calculations and understanding of the intricacies of further processing of a sundress (Fig. 2 - 3).

The fabric is folded in half, we put the upper part of the “sun” skirt on the fold. There was a bodice around it.

Cutting from neoprene is best done in a turn.

Please note that when choosing the lines of a skirt in your size, you need to take into account not the formal size, but the volume of your waist. If the skirt does not sit tight on the figure, the excess will have to be cut off along the seam at the back. And since the waist section of the "sun" stretches quite easily, you can not be afraid that its length will not be enough to handle the zipper at the back.

Another important point: the top and bottom of the skirt should be the same length. Of course, this is if you want your "marshmallow" to be very close to the one shown in the photo.

It is also important to understand the following: the smaller the radius of the lower cut of the "sun", the shorter this cut will be.

The length of the bottom strip of fabric should be the same as the cut length + seam allowances.

The lower part of the skirt is strips of fabric. Mark on a piece of fabric the place where these strips will be. And place the patterns of the bodice.

The top and bottom of the skirt can be cut without seam allowances.

Please also note that the central recess of the sun skirt is cut out without allowances, otherwise the recess will be short.

Pattern sundress "marshmallow" 40-54 photoThe lobar thread of the middle of the bodice should be parallel to the half-slip, which coincides with the middle seam of the shelf. The share barrel of the bodice is perpendicular to the waist line.

The allowances for the seams of the bodice are ordinary: 1 - 1,2 cm along the seam of the relief; on the bottom of the bodice 3 - 3,5 cm for fitting; No allowance is added to the neck for the same reason as to the central notch of the sun skirt.

Having cut out the upper part of the skirt and the bodice, cut the “sun” along the lengthwise one side to attach the zipper and measure the length of the lower cut.

Detail of the lower part of the skirt, which is a strip, will consist of two or three parts (see photo). Why is that?

The length of the outer cut of the “sun” will be, depending on the size, from 260 to 298 cm. 150 - 2.

It turns out that in any case, side seams will be needed, but the third seam at the back on the continuation of the seam of attaching a zipper can be omitted on a strip.

The “lower” lining bodice can be cut out of thin silk or lining fabric. It is easier and more accurate to cut out the lining according to the details of the cut of the bodice, and not according to the patterns. On fig. 2 shows the cutting of the lining from another fabric, in fig. 3 - from the fabric of the "top".

Sewing a sundress is much easier than cutting, since preliminary calculations have already been made.

First, we collect the “upper” bodice - we grind and iron all the seams, except for the middle seam “on the back” (on the neck) - we sweep it. We collect the skirt and take the zipper.

We carry out the fitting of the bodice and skirt. Having put on the bodice, we tie it with a linen elastic band and outline the level of the waist. We make other adjustments as needed.

We sweep the bodice and skirt along the intended waist line.

Continuing to sew a sundress, we process the bodice with a lining. To do this, you will have to separate the bodice and skirt again.

We collect the "lower" bodice, except for the middle seam and proceed to the connection of the "lower" and "upper" bodice. First, we grind the cut of the neckline the way we do it with a stitching, but instead of stitching, we use the “lower” bodice. Next, we grind the side cut, grind and sweep the middle seam.

We connect the bodice treated in this way with a skirt, the waist section of which is turned with an oblique trim.

We finish sewing by sewing on the zipper and processing the bottom.
