What to sew and how to calculate fabric consumption

Side view photo of summer sundresses with lace on a simple patternThe choice of fabrics depends on the choice of style of the skirt.

From chintz and poplin, as well as from fabrics with the addition of synthetics, you can sew a sundress with a sun skirt.

A staple, crinkled gauze, thin natural linen and natural silk are suitable for "tatyanka" and wedge skirts.

The width of the lace is 8 - 9 cm. If you choose lace with scallops, then the width of the scallops is not taken into account. In other words, at its narrowest point, the lace should be 8-9 cm wide.

The cost of a sundress with a Tatyanka skirt will be about 250 cm, with a width of 140-150 cm.

Calculation formula:

2 skirt lengths + 4 cm for hem + bodice cost,

where the consumption for the bodice will be 65 - 70 cm.

The cost of a sundress with a skirt "sun" will be about 350 - 380 cm, so it is extremely important to first choose the length of the skirt.

Lace consumption will be from 160 to 190 cm, depending on the size of the product and the size of the lace repeat.

In addition, you may need a cord or strap for straps of about 200 cm.

4. How to cut a simple sundress for the summer according to the finished pattern

Do-it-yourself pattern of a summer sundress with a Tatyanka skirtIf you proceeded to cutting, it means that the style of the skirt is selected and the length of the skirt is selected.

It is better to make the bodice double - this will simplify processing and allow thin fabrics not to shine through.

Consider first how to cut a sundress with a Tatyanka skirt (picture 2) - this variation of the style is shown in the photo.

The shelf pattern must be laid with a cut cut on the fold of the fabric. If you cut a shelf with a shallow cut, then the shelf pattern can be laid with a half-slide on the fold of the fabric.

Other shares are indicated on the patterns.

Seam allowances - 1 cm. We add only along the cuts of the shelves and the back of the bodice (picture 2). Of course, if you don’t need the middle of the back, then you don’t cut it out, if you need it, then 4 parts will be needed.

Do-it-yourself pattern of a summer sundress with a sun skirtBurlap also need 4 pcs.

We fold the fabric for cutting out the details of the bodice in half along the width of the bodice of the shelf, that is, you need two folds.

For Tatyanka, the fabric can be folded as you like, since we need two rectangles.

We also fold the lace in half in the middle of the rapport and cut out the lace details with 1 cm allowances.

Now about how to cut a sundress with a skirt "sun" (picture 3).

On the skirt pattern, select the desired notch, then from the notch line - the desired length.

The length of the notch must be at least:

Half waist + 4 cm

4 cm will allow you to make a zipper on the ZP and pockets on the PP, as well as provide the necessary minimum increase in loose fit.

Of course, you can choose the largest notch and assemble the skirt to the waist.

To ensure minimal deformation at the toe, it is advisable to chamfer the side seams of the skirt, making an allowance, as shown in 3 drawing.

We do not add seam allowances at the waist and bottom. When choosing the length, you can take into account the alignment (alignment) of the skirt and the processing of the bottom, adding 2 - 4 cm.

When the skirt "sun" is cut out, we cut out the details of the bodice of the shelf. For them, you can fold the fabric lunges separately.

After cutting, make a cut for pockets (picture 4), stepping back from the side seams 5 - 7 cm. We make a cut 20 - 25 cm long, so that when processing it, it is like a long tuck - up to 40 cm.

When the incisions for the pockets are made, you need to attach burlap to them and make notches 0,8 - 0,9 cm long.

Make the same cut on the ZP of the “sun” skirt in order to sew a “lightning” along the midline of the ZP.

5. How to sew a summer sundress with your own hands - sewing sequence

Cutting and sewing pockets in a summer sundress with lace according to a patternA variant of sewing the style shown in a photo.

  1. Iron the bodice shelf along the fold, i.e. along the cutout line.
  2. Stitch the shelf of the bodice along the armhole, leaving 0,7 cm unstitched to pull the cord (braid); make notches on the seam allowance, iron, turn out and sew a drawstring line.
  3. Gather along the front of the bodice and connect with lace. The connection method depends on the lace. The most likely is a narrow zigzag, while the lace is superimposed on top. The open edges of the front can be pre-overlocked or cut off near the zigzag stitch.
  4. We pull the lace, fixing the ends at the side seam of the shelf.
  5. The side seam of the front is connected to the lace detail of the back in a zigzag pattern.
  6. The sprout (neck of the back) in this model falls on a lace detail. It should be processed with an oblique inlay, stitched from the inside so that you can pull the cord under the inlay.
  7. On PP skirts, pockets are processed. First, burlap is sewn, the seams are overcast and ironed. "Darts" are ground along the contours of the burlap and overcast on the overlock.
  8. The side seams are double stitched or sewing seam and carefully ironed.
  9. Then, the bodice is connected to the skirt. The raw part of the waist section of the skirt on the back is processed into a hem or oblique trim, as the sprout was processed. An elastic band is pulled into the resulting drawstring, which can be adjusted during the fitting.
  10. Thread the lace, as shown in the photo, into the lace detail of the back. And, if necessary, sew a zipper.
  11. Fitting. We adjust the tension of the elastic band, the length of the straps. If necessary, the straps can be fixed at the other edge of the armhole of the shelf and on the lace part of the back too. We align the length of the skirt, measuring it from the floor.
  12. We sew a zipper, if it is provided.
  13. It remains only to process the bottom into a hem with a closed cut, a Moscow seam, or in any other suitable way.
