Description of the design of sundress patterns

Both sundresses have a loose trapeze silhouette, as they are intended to be worn over T-shirts or turtlenecks.

The model without a bust dart is simpler and more concise. This version of the sundress is suitable for girls and women with relatively small breasts.

The model with a dart on the front also has a side, which allows you to achieve an ideal fit on a figure with medium and even large breasts. And the convenient large pocket on the barrel is very easy to process.

Additional “adjustment” of the product is carried out by changing the length of the strap. The presented strap patterns show only the minimum size of the finished part. How to cut will be discussed below.

Please note that the patterns have markings for several length options - from conventionally “short” to length that covers the knee.

Patterns for additional pockets on the back or side can be downloaded for free You should choose the appropriate size of the additional pocket and its location during the fitting, based on the size and length of the product.

What to make a sundress from in the style of “classic denim”

Simple patterns of sundresses, denim classics with buttons photo 3We start with thick denim - the most obvious option.

Corduroy also works well, but since corduroy is a pile fabric, it is not recommended for beginners.

You can also use gabardine and any suiting fabric. In this case, whether the product belongs to the “denim style” will be determined by the finishing. For example, double stitching with thick threads. For double stitching, it is recommended to use a twin needle.

For a summer sundress, not only jeans, but also “heavy” linen are suitable, and for winter – wool and lightweight drape.

If you choose drape or loose wool, then it is better to cut out facings from lining or any thinner fabric. In this case, the facings should be duplicated with dense dublerin.

Experienced tailors can sew similar sundresses from velvet on a cotton base.

Knitted stretch fabrics are not recommended for sewing these models.

The consumption for a sundress without a dart will be 110 - 170 cm with a width of 150 cm. If you have to cut from pile fabric (corduroy, velvet), then the upper limit of consumption can be increased to 180 - 190 cm.

Consumption for a sundress with a dart is from 140 to 220 cm with a width of 150 cm.

How to cut sundresses using ready-made patterns

How to cut denim sundresses with a turtleneck using simple ready-made patterns (Fig. 2)Cutting is not difficult - the fabric is folded in half facing inward, the edges are aligned, and the patterns are laid out taking into account the grain thread and seam allowances (picture 2).

Let's look at the seam allowances: 1 cm on almost all cuts, but 2,5 - 4 cm on the bottom.

Such an allowance along the bottom will allow you to process the bottom into a hem with an open cut - overcast and fold once (2,5 cm is enough). Or in a hem with a closed cut - fold it twice (up to 4 cm).

Along the cut of the entrance into the pocket - 2 - 3 cm. This allowance will need to be glued with double tape so that the cut of the entrance does not stretch, overcast, fold and iron. Shared double linen along the part.

It is better to cut the strap longer - a rectangular blank with one half glued. Shared double linen along the part.

Duplicated areas of parts in Fig. 2 are shaded.

The facings are also duplicated, for which we cut out the duplication according to the pattern without seam allowances. Glue it onto the fabric and then cut out the parts. It's easier. The partial facing can be arbitrary or along the edge of the fastener.

The fastener area on the back can also be duplicated.

After cutting, we mark control points at the level of the hips and/or waist, so as not to distort the seams when sewing. Mark the location of the pocket or the line of entry into the pocket. We are not cutting out the pockets on the back yet - they should be selected during fitting, based on the length and size of the sundress.

And about the middle seam. A concave middle seam is preferable - it will fit better.

How to sew sundresses

  1. The middle seam is better processed linen seam
  2. Process the pockets that are cut out. For a sundress with a dart, finish processing the shelf.
  3. Process the straps and attach temporarily to the back.
  4. Baste side seams and try on. During the fitting, decide on additional pockets and clarify the position and length of the straps.
  5. Process additional pockets.
  6. Connect the facings along the middle seams.
  7. Stitch the back and top of the front, placing the straps under the stitching.
  8. Process the bottom and fasteners.
