The model is designed for beginners. For sewing, thin stretch fabrics with a high coefficient of extensibility are suitable, since there is no fastener in this sundress.

The consumption of the main fabric will be 140 - 150 cm and the companion fabric 90 cm.

A set of patterns for a summer sundress consists of patterns of an adjacent bodice with an open back and a pattern of a flared "sun" skirt (picture 1).
The insert at the waist is not included in the set of patterns, as it has the shape of a strip. Its width is 7 cm, taking into account allowances for seams.

Features of cutting a sundress according to a finished pattern with your own hands for beginners

First, cut out the details of the bodice and skirt

1. To cut, fold the fabric in half and, aligning the edges, place them parallel to the edge of the cutting table.
2. Lay the patterns of the skirt "sun" and the back on the fold of the fabric (picture 2), a shelf - side to the edges.
3. Details should be cut without allowances for seams beyond the pattern stroke line.
   That is, the actual allowance in this case will be 0,5 cm, which is quite enough to sew the product knitted stitch.
4. In addition to the above details, you must cut out the ties and trim for processing the open sections of the bodice (sides, armholes and top of the back).
5. We cut out the ties along the shared thread and about 3 cm wide, and the inlay along the transverse thread, its width is 3-4 cm.

Note. Now sold a lot of all kinds of cords and braids. You can choose decorative cords from specialty stores and don't bother with ties. There is also the so-called "stretch oblique inlay", with which you can replace the inlay made of fabric.

Cut according to the patterns of a sundress made of companion fabric

After the bodice and skirt, we cut out the details from the companion fabric (picture 3): an addition to the skirt according to the pattern and an insert at the waist - a strip 7 cm wide.

A very important point in cutting is notches. Since stretch with a large coefficient (for example, the “oil” type) is almost impossible to sweep due to its extensibility, you will be guided by the notches when grinding parts.

So, you will need notches along the midline of the skirt, both at the waist and along the bottom. In addition, two more should be placed along the bottom of the skirt, exactly in the middle between the already existing notches. Thus, the bottom of the skirt will be divided by notches into 4 equal parts, which will help to facilitate the task of attaching the additional stitch.

On the bodice, notches will be needed along the bottom of the back in the midline. On the shelf, traditionally notches mark a semi-skid. This will allow you to correctly perform the smell of the bodice.

How to sew a sundress for beginners step by step

It's also simple how to sew a skirt on an elastic band instead of a belt.

1. We start with sewing ties and preparing the inlay. Ties should be sewn with a medium-sized and narrow zigzag and turned inside out.
2. Stitch the inlay fragments in the same zigzag and iron it in half lengthwise.
3. We start by assembling the bodice. We grind and iron the side seams and darts of the shelf.
4. We sew, slightly stretching, the inlay with a knitted seam. We sew it along the sides, then along the armholes of the shelf and the top of the back. Iron the seam towards the bodice.
   In general, the process differs from the processing of the neck with bias binding in greater simplicity.
5. We chop off the shelves of the bodice and grind them along the waist in a zigzag.
6. It's time to connect the bodice with a stripe insert. To do this, you should "try on" the insert to determine its length.
7. It is important that the length of the insert strip is less than the length of the lower cut of the bodice, but sufficient to put it on without a fastener.
8. Having decided on the length, we grind the strip into a “circle”, iron the seam and connect it to the bodice, aligning the seam of the strip with the notch on the back of the bodice.
9. Then, again combining the notches, we connect the bodice with the skirt.
10. It remains only to grind the additional stitches into a “circle” and connect them to the bottom of the skirt.
11. And process the bottom with a seam with a steering wheel (see the article "Machine seams").
12. Ties are best attached to the fitting of the product. We fasten them to the shoulder cut or below (the second line to which you can attach the ties is also on the pattern).

As you can see, if you know “what’s what”, tailoring your own clothes is not such a difficult thing.
