How to sew a floor-length wrap dress for beginners according to a finished pattern

Pattern description:

All sizes from 40 to 54 are printed from one PDF file of the pattern. The pattern can be printed on standard sheets of paper from A4 to A0. Paperless cutting through the projector is possible.

Sewing a detachable maxi dress at home

Perhaps the most difficult moment can be considered the moment of choosing between a sun skirt and a wedge skirt. This is a matter of taste and financial possibilities.

But the advantages of a skirt consisting of wedges are not known to everyone. Such a skirt is practically not deformed in the sock, while the sun skirt is stretched in sections of the oblique thread.

The next choice is the density of the assembly on the skirt.

On thin and delicate fabrics without assembly, at least the minimum is difficult to manage. Let's try to outline the general "rules" for determining the density of the assembly along the waist section of the skirt.

In my opinion, the density of the assembly should be in connection with the peculiarities of the figure of the customer.

If the difference between the waist and hips is small, then the assembly should be fairly tight. We calculate the length of the waist section of the skirt using the formula: 1,5 From - This is one and a half waist circumference. If the fabric is very thin, then you can take two waist circumferences.

If the difference between the waist and hips is large, the waist is thin, then the length of the waist section of the skirt should only slightly exceed the waist circumference - 2-15 cm will be enough, depending on the thickness of the fabric.

Of course, intermediate assembly options are also possible.

Based on how tight the assembly should be, you should choose a recess of the desired length for the sun skirt or a wedge for cutting the skirt with wedges.

When choosing a skirt with wedges, remember that their number can be any - both even and odd. The number of wedges depends on the style. For example, for a wrap skirt, it is convenient to use an odd number of wedges. For an odorless skirt, an odd number of wedges is convenient if the dress is without a fastener, otherwise one wedge will have to be cut.

A little about the length of the sleeve. Let's consider a pattern - it has a length correction area. To shorten lay a crease on the template, to add length - cut along the correction area and move apart.

To determine the desired length, you will need not only to take a measurement of Dr - the length of the sleeve - but also to determine the overlap. Usually the overlap is from 3 to 5 cm.

As for the cuff, it's a rectangle.

Cuff width = 2 finished widths + 2 cm

Cuff Length=Oz+4cm+2cm, where Oz is the girth of the wrist

The width of the belt is determined in the same way as the width of the cuff. Belt length - 100 - 150 cm.

And the most important question: is a zipper needed and where should it be located?

If the dress wraps up like a bathrobe, then the zipper is not needed.

If there is no smell, then in a dress with a sun skirt, the zipper will be located in the middle seam.

And in a dress with a skirt with wedges, if their number is even, the zipper will be located in the side seam.

Seam allowances

The seam allowances for the bodice and sleeves can be called standard.

We add 1 cm to the side and shoulder sections of the back shelf, as well as to the “vertical” sections of the sleeve, we do not add allowances to the sprout (back neck) and sleeve hem.

To the cut of the side of the shelf, we add an allowance for a one-piece selection - 3 - 5 cm. For processing, it will only need to be bent.

Do not forget to add an allowance of 3 - 5 cm along the bottom of the shelf to complete the fitting.

Allowances for the classic skirt "sun" are needed only for processing the cut - 3 - 5 cm.

How to cut a dress with a sun skirt to the floor

We start cutting with a skirt. Fold the fabric in half across, matching the edges (picture 2).

We retreat from the edges on one side 5 cm and draw a line parallel to them. This will be the slit or bead line if you want to make a wrap skirt.

We measure the length of the skirt from one of the sections and apply a recess pattern of the desired size to the drawn line. On the same line we measure Du again.

From the notch line we measure the length with a “fan” and draw a bottom line.

Pay attention to the need for a bevel along the middle seam of the sun skirt.

The remaining patterns are laid out most economically, taking into account the shared direction and allowances for seams.

We outline the half-skid line on the shelf with threads.

How to cut a dress with a wedge skirt to the floor

This cutting is not difficult (picture 3). The fabric is folded in half.

Allowances for seams to the wedge can be added or not added. But it is extremely important that the shared thread coincides with the middle line of the wedge.

The remaining parts are laid out taking into account the shared direction and allowances for the seams.

We outline the half-skid line on the shelf with threads.

How to sew a dress to the floor with your own hands

1. Overcast, bend and iron the selection of the shelf. On this, its processing may end, but it will also be possible to lay a reinforcing line later.
2. We turn over the sprout (the neck of the back).
3. We process the middle seam, shoulder and side seams, followed by careful ironing. Lightning is stitched to the desired seam.
4. According to the selection, if necessary, you can lay a fixing or finishing line.
5. We sweep the bodice, aligning the half-skid line of both shelves.
6. We process the sleeve and cuffs.
7. We prepare the skirt for fitting - we grind the wedges, perform the assembly. Don't forget to leave the zipper seam unstitched.
8. Trying on - try on the bodice and skirt separately. Decide on the length of the bodice, assemblies. We sweep the sleeve - this can be done right on the fitting.
9. We connect the bodice and skirt, stitch the cuffs and stitch the sleeve. To make the dress fit well, we lay a line along the waist allowance with a rubber thread. You can lay a few more lines along the bodice and along the skirt close to the waist seam, so that later they can be hidden with a belt.
10. The second fitting is the alignment of the skirt.
