When choosing a fabric for a dress, consider its stretchability. Models of dresses that do not have darts require fabrics with medium or high stretch.

For sewing a dress trimmed with lace, stretch velvet is ideal. And for guipure maxi dresses - stretch guipure and supplex on the "lining". Please note that in stretch dresses with a "cover" both fabrics should stretch well in all directions - both the "top" fabric and the "lining" fabric.

How to cut and sew a dress without a frill made of stretch velvet

It is very important that the fibers of the velvet on the product are directed upwards, otherwise the dress will rise under the clothes. It is equally important that the villi point upwards on all details.

Another point in the technique of cutting stretch velvet: the shelf and back must be seamless due to the complexity of wet-heat treatment.

Everybody knows, that velvet is almost impossible to iron in the usual way.

Ideally, if you have a brush with metal bristles, the seams can be ironed out on it, barely touching the fabric.

There are smarter ways too. For example, on an inverted iron ... But, if we have only two side seams and one on the sleeve, then we should not bother much. It is enough to try ironing on a small piece of fabric to adapt.

So, in order for the back to turn out without a seam, the fabric should be folded in a special way by making two folds - one for the pattern of the shelf, the other for the pattern of the back (picture 2). The sleeve fits between them twice. If the sleeve does not pass the width of the fabric, then it is placed above or below the front and back.

Cut out the details of the cut without seam allowances. You can add length according to your measurements.

This dress is very easy to sew. First, we sew the side seams and the seam of the sleeve on the overlock with a knitted seam. We iron the allowances of these seams to the back, as mentioned above, and then sew the sleeve on the overlock.

When all seams are stitched and ironed, the dress can be tried on. The peculiarity of such dresses is that if the size is chosen correctly, then they crawl up and not down, so you should not be afraid that the dress will slip.

The upper section is processed with stretch lace, which is embroidered with beads and beads on the top.

The bottom is hemmed with a stitching line or a double needle.

I will give one more piece of advice: when buying a double needle, look for the inscription “For stretch” - “stretch”.

How to cut and how to sew a floor-length guipure dress with a frill according to the same pattern

Pay attention to the sequence of cutting and sewing - this is very important.

In this model, a middle seam is allowed along the back, so we lay out the patterns by folding the guipure in half and aligning the edges, as is done in most cases.

Before cutting, check again the length of the dress to the frill, the length of the frill and the overall length of the dress. It is important that the flounce starts above the knee, and the overall length of the product takes into account the height of the heel.

First, we cut out the guipure “top” without seam allowances. You can limit yourself to a shelf, back and sleeve, and cut out the shuttlecock later.

Then we lay out the stretch “lining” on the cutting table in one layer “face up”, and on it we lay out the cut out details of the back and sleeve shelves also “face up” and we outline them with large oblique stitches on the “lining”, stepping back from the cuts 3-4 cm Stitch length 4 - 5 cm.

Having outlined the shelf, back and sleeve, we cut them out of the “lining”.

The swept parts are ground down in a narrow zigzag along the side seams, the seams of the sleeve are also ground down, and the stitched sections are overcast. After that, the side seams and the seams of the sleeves are ironed out. The mark can be removed and fitted. If necessary, the dress is adjusted along the middle seam and its length without frill is specified, as well as the length of the frill.

After fitting, the shuttlecock can be cut from the "top" fabric and, if necessary, from the "lining".

The flounce is connected to the dress in the same way as a regular sun skirt is connected to the bodice, while the seam allowance should be between the two “top” and “bottom” flounces.

The upper section of the dress and the lower section of the frill are processed with fragments of lace from the remnants - they are cut out and superimposed on the section swept over with a knitted seam. Fragments are sewn in a zigzag pattern. You can also use matching stretch lace.

It is important that both models of the dress are made without a fastener, which makes sewing easier for beginner couturiers.
