Cutting and sewing a dress with folds from the neck and on the skirt

If you are sewing a wool dress, then the seam allowances should contain reserves in case the customer recovers or the fabric shrinks in the subsequent wash, as well as a margin for fitting the product for fitting. Let us consider in more detail the purpose of each allowance (Fig. 2).

The middle seam of the bodice of the back and RF of the skirt - 3 cm - is added taking into account the fit to the figure.

The side and shoulder seams of the bodice of the back and the RFP of the skirt are 1 cm each, since no stocks are needed for them.

The lower cut of the details of the bodice (back and shelves) - 3 cm - in case of shrinkage of the fabric, when fitting the bodice is often shortened, but sometimes it can also be lengthened.

The upper section of the skirt (PP and RF) - 1 cm.

The side and shoulder sections of the front bodice and the PP skirt should contain reserves in case the customer recovers, so the allowance is 2 - 2,5 cm.

We cut out the neckline, sprout, armholes and sleeve hem for the stroke line - precision is needed here. Add 1,5 - 2 cm to the hem along the bottom of the skirt and sleeves.

The facings are cut out from the dublerin. Pay attention to the fact that the pattern of the facing of the neck is given in a reversal.

We cut out the facing of the sprout according to the pattern or according to the cut out details of the back, and add allowances after gluing the dubbing facings to the fabric.

Allowances for turning will be needed only along the shoulder seam - 1 cm - for sewing.

The layout is “jack” (Fig. 2), the fabric is folded in half face inward, the edges are aligned and arranged parallel to the edge of the table.

If you want to lengthen the skirt, then extending the midline and sideline is not the best idea. It will be impossible to walk in such a dress, and the incision will only spoil the silhouette (Fig. 3a).

For lengthening, you need to circle the pattern along the bottom, middle and side lines, then move it up along the middle line by the desired amount (Fig. 3b).

Connect the lower side point of the stroke to the point of the side cut from which the seam bend begins.

Sewing a dress is not difficult if you already have some sewing experience.

Remember to cover all the pleats completely and iron them at the very beginning of sewing.

A simple option for assembling such a product for fitting is to assemble the back, assemble the shelf, sweep the side and shoulder seams and baste the zipper.

Remember that the success of the fitting depends not only on the quality of the sewing work, but also on the wet-heat treatment of the dress.

Therefore, after basting each seam, iron or iron it before proceeding to the next.

When trying on, specify the degree of fit of the product, as well as the lines of armholes and necklines. If you did NOT add unnecessary allowances, then the correction will be minimal.
