3. Features of a do-it-yourself pattern of a long dress with a hood

How to sew a casual floor-length dress according to the latest fashion at home inexpensively - this is the main question that women ask themselves.

Strange as it may seem, this is quite real if you have minimal cutting and sewing skills, and from sewing equipment, an overlock and / or a machine with a zigzag stitch.

3.1. Determining the length of the dress and sleeves

The pattern for a floor-length hoodie turtleneck dress is very simple (picture 1). But in order to perform cutting on it, you should first compare the length of the product and the length of the sleeve with the desired one, so as not to waste more fabric than necessary.

When determining the length of the product, one should also take into account the coefficient of arbitrary extensibility of the fabric - that is, how much the fabric can stretch under its own weight.

3.2. Possible options for cutting and sewing a dress with your own hands at home

Let's take a closer look at the option on the right. In this case, the fabric is folded in half along the width of the front and back, and the sleeves are cut out later from the remaining strip of fabric, which can be folded across.

When cutting, pay attention to the direction of the lobar thread of the back - the lobar thread should be parallel to the midline, that is, perpendicular to the horizontal lines of the waist and bottom.

When sewing a dress on an overlock or zigzag with a seam width of not more than 0,5 - 0,7 cm, you do not need to add seam allowances.

4. How to sew a long floor-length dress with a hood step by step

The sewing sequence is also very simple.

A zipper is not needed in this product, but we still start by sewing the middle seam of the back - we sew it with a knitted seam on an overlock or a narrow zigzag. Iron carefully.

Then, we grind the hood tucks (you can’t do without a zigzag), the middle seam of the hood and shoulder seams, iron them.

Shoulder seams during stitching can be reinforced with an "edge" or a shared strip of any thin fabric of low extensibility.
