1. Description of the pattern set

Sewing difficulty level: medium.

The style of this dress is suitable for all types of figures of various fullness, except for the "apple".

Due to the cut-off style, the pattern can be used for sewing dresses on figures that combine two sizes.

For example, for figures with very narrow hips and broad shoulders, or vice versa - with very wide hips.

Girls and women with narrow and/or sloping shoulders are advised to use shoulder pads.

This model of sheath dress can be worn over a T-shirt or turtleneck.

The pattern is designed for sewing at home on household sewing machines.

2. The design of the style of the dress and what to sew

This is a straight sheath, more precisely, a sheath dress with a straight skirt.

The sleeve is a short one-piece kimono type.

For a better fit, a side tuck for the bust has been added, as well as darts at the waist.

This design allows you to sew a dress from absolutely stable and "hard" fabrics and is suitable for women with large breasts.

Pocket - cutting barrel - one of the easiest to sew.

The collar is made on the basis of a shawl, which also simplifies tailoring, but still requires sewing skills and experience.

What to sew and how to calculate fabric consumption

As mentioned above, stable fabrics are suitable for sewing - fabrics that do not stretch and do not contain elastane.

For example, tight denim and suit fabrics.

Of course, you can also sew a summer dressing gown with a zipper from poplin, linen or chintz.

Dart for the chest allows you to choose almost any fabric that is not too thin.

Fabric consumption, depending on the size, will be from 170 to 220 cm, with a width of 150 cm.

4. How to cut a sheath dress - a robe according to a simple ready-made pattern.

Consider seam allowancespicture 2).

At first glance, everything is simple - 1 - 1,2 cm.

Exceptions are the sprout (neck of the back), the stitching line of the collar, the drop-off cut of the selection and the waist cut of the skirt - allowances are not added to them.

On the bottom - 2,5 - 3 cm for a hem with an open or closed cut (single or double hem).

Particular attention should be paid to the allowance for the waist cut of the bodice.

As you noticed, on the patterns of the bodice, the lower part is shaded - the supposed place of the stitched belt, which you see in the photo.

You can sew a dress without a belt, but you should not sew it without trying it on.

It is for trying on that we need a large (3 - 4 cm) allowance for the waist cut of the bodice.

Now the million dollar question: why is this belt needed at all?

Answer: the belt solves not so much a decorative problem as it allows you to get rid of the thickening that will result from the “meeting” of the waist darts.

If you decide to sew a dress without a stitched belt, as in the photo, then the allowances of the bodice and skirt tucks should be ironed in different directions in order to reduce the thickness of the waist seam at the place where they “meet”.

If you are in doubt whether the collar will be “standing”, as in the photo, or turn-down like a shawl, it is recommended to increase the allowance along the middle seam of the collar and the pick up to 2,5 - 3 cm. In fig. 3 this cut is designated as a correction line.

Picking is also not as easy as it seems.

The name of the lines of selection and its detailed design is shown in 3 drawing.

The upper end of the zipper, which ends with a metal or plastic "tack", is marked on the drawing with a notch.

The lower part of the side goes along the shared thread, and the upper part, imitating a lapel and turning into a collar, is inclined. Conditionally "oblique thread".

The bend of the lapel is a conditional line, which in this case helps to determine the boundaries of the collar and selection, collar and zipper.

Now for the seam allowances. The allowances along the edge of the side and the departure of the collar should be less than the similar allowances of the shelf by 0,2 - 0,3 cm.

If the collar turns away, as in a jacket, then vice versa - the allowances for the selection are larger than the similar allowances for the seams of the shelf.

Now with regard to the selection for the skirt - this is a strip of fabric, the length of which is equal to the length of the skirt with allowances, and the width is equal to the width of the selection with allowances.

Layout (picture 4) is not difficult.

The share thread is marked on the patterns.

Notches are performed immediately after cutting according to the markup. Particularly important for processing is the notch in the corner between the shoulder cut and the collar insertion cut (Fig. 2-3). This notch is made on the allowance to the inflection line of the lapel.

The belt, as mentioned above, is a strip of fabric (Fig. 4).

Belt width in cutting = Width in finished form + 2 cm

Length = Waist + 10cm (at least 10 cm just in case, cutting off the excess is not difficult).

The belt should be transverse and you can cut it out after trying it on.

5. How to sew a sheath dress with a zipper at home

Sewing sequence:

1. The assembly of the bodice.
2. Skirt assembly.
3. Trying on a separate bodice with clarification of the position of the waist and correction of the length of the bodice, based on the characteristics of the figure - posture, chest size and vertical proportions. For example, if the legs are short, then the waist should be higher; and if long legs are combined with narrow sloping shoulders and wide hips, then it is better to lower the waist below the “natural” one. We put the bodice on the figure, tie it with a narrow linen elastic band and “make the waist” with chalk.
4. Then, you should sweep the bodice and skirt and determine the need for a belt. Not everyone should visually "crush" the figure with an additional horizontal insert.
5. Only after that, we connect the "top" with the "bottom". The simplest option is the following. A bodice with a sour cream skirt, iron the seam, put on a belt, after ironing it along 1 cm on each side, trim it, cut off the excess and overcast the open sections.
6. We sew lightning.
7. We process the sides and bottom.
8. Finishing ironing.
