Description of design and style variations

This is a straight pattern of a fur coat (short coat) of a simple design with a lowered shoulder and a non-stop sleeve.

The bottom of the bead is one-piece to reduce the complexity and labor involved in bead processing.

The collar is made with a detachable stand. The collar stand is the most worn part of the fur coat, so it would be logical if it was made from a material that is more resistant to wear.

What materials will be required for sewing a fur coat or short fur coat, except for faux fur and how to calculate their consumption

Let's start with faux fur, of which there are a great many varieties.

The most suitable for beginners will be faux fur "sheepskin coat" or "dubbing", one side of which is fur, and the other is fabric or imitation suede (see the photo). Such furs allow very just sew a fur coat or short fur coat with your own hands at home, without having serious cutting and sewing skills.

Other types of artificial fur can be divided into lining and fur for the "top". We are interested in furs for the "top". The most popular today are furs "tsigeyka", "mink" and "fox".

The width of faux fur can vary from 140 to 170 cm.

The consumption of fur with a width of 140 - 150 cm for a short fur coat will be from 190 to 260 cm.

Given the cost of fur, it is better to go to a store with ready-made patterns for a fur coat of the length you need. To accurately determine the consumption, the shop cutter will lay out the patterns on the fur, taking into account the edges and pattern. Edges and pattern can significantly increase consumption.

In addition to fur, for sewing a fur coat, you will need some leather (can be artificial) or coat fabric to process the collar stand and lower collar. If you are sewing from long-haired fur, for example, from an artificial fox, then the lower collar from it is not suitable.

The fabric consumption for the lower collar and the stand will be 20 cm.

For the bottom collar, you can also use an old coat that matches the color, thick denim, etc.

If you sew a fur coat on a lining, its consumption will be from 140 to 200 cm.

The consumption of insulation is equal to the consumption of the lining.

How to cut a fur coat or short fur coat according to a simple ready-made pattern

We start by determining the length of the future fur coat and, if necessary, lengthen it by extending the lines of the center lines and side seams.

We perform cutting based on the rules for cutting fur, that is, we lay out the fur in one layer and lay the patterns in such a way that the direction of the pile is in the same direction (figures 2 и 3). Even if the direction of the pile is not clearly expressed, it is better to cut so that the pile is in one direction.

But for the upper collar, the pile should be in the direction of departure.

You need to cut the fur by winding the scissors under the base, but if possible, without cutting the pile.

Collars are best cut out after the selection has been processed and the fitting has been completed. The size of the collar is selected based on the length of the neck.

Seam allowances depend on the chosen processing method, but we are considering the simplest sewing option on household machines.

I’ll make a reservation right away, many household sewing machines run the risk of breaking down from sewing fur. A deviating needle bar, a weak toothed rail, a weak spring on the presser foot make it difficult to sew fur at home. And if the base of the fur is impregnated with a special composition, then this sewing is almost impossible.

Use special paws for the skin - they glide well on the basis of faux fur.

You can also use a walking foot, you can sew fur on an overlock ... In a word, everyone chooses their own way.

Now for the seam allowances.

Shoulder and side, sleeve sections - 1 cm.

The neckline and armhole, collar stitching cut - 0,3 - 0,5 cm, BUT NOT MORE!!!

Bead lapel - 0,7 - 1 cm, pick lapel - 2 - 2,5 cm to fit and form a large fur piping.

For a “sheepskin coat”, the selection may not be cut out at all or cut out with other allowances. For a sheepskin coat with a selection, the allowance for the lapel of the selection is 0,7 - 1 cm, and the lapel of the side is 2 - 2,5 cm. In this case, the selection acts as a fur coat finish.

The take-off cut of the upper collar is 2 - 2,5 cm, as for the selection.

The horizontal cut of the selection is 1 cm.

Don't forget to notch into the corner between the one-piece collar and the lapel. The length of this notch is 0,9 - 1 cm. Do not be afraid to cut, because without it the processing of the sides will not work and it will not be visible among the pile, even if you make the cut larger than necessary.

You will also need notches on the border of the collar and lapel - they are marked on the patterns.

On the bottom of the fur coat and sleeves - 4 cm.

Cutting the lining is not difficult (pictures 4 и 5), but also has some nuances.

Seam allowance for lining.

Shoulder, side, sleeve - 1 cm, do not add along the sprout, cut to the side - 2,5 cm, bottom - 4 - 5 cm (it is better to cut off the excess later).

On the middle seam of the back, you can make a tuck slot in the area of ​​​​the shoulder blades, as shown in the pictures. 4 и 5, but this is only suitable for lining that is quilted by hand. If you cut from a quilted lining, then the middle seam along the back is not needed - we lay the pattern on the fold of the fabric with the middle line.

For burlap, allowances can be omitted, but if you want to make it a little larger, add 1 cm.

The lining pocket is a rectangle and its size can be arbitrary or you can download free patch pocket patterns.

There is another option quilted pocket on the lining.

The cutting of the lower collar and stand is shown in 6 drawing. Along the cut of the collar and along the cuts of the stand, the allowances are 0,5 cm, along the departure - up to 1 cm.

As for the belt, it can be cut across from short fur, and along it from long fur, but it should consist of two parts so that the direction of the fur is down to its ends.

How to sew a faux fur coat at home

Most importantly: fur DO NOT IRON!

Consider the simplest version of sewing from fur such as "sheepskin coat" or "dubbing" (see the photo).

Since a fur coat made of such fur is sewn without lining, the question arises of how to process open fur cuts at home. The easiest way is to edging with an oblique inlay.

In this case, it is better to make oblique trim at home from durable fabric.

You can edging each cut or edging an already finished seam - at your discretion.

You can use stitched seams with subsequent fastening of allowances on both sides of the seam, but it is better to overlap the edged sections on top of each other and grind. False sutures are more wearable and require fewer operations.

The sequence for this sewing method is as follows.

1. Process the pockets on the shelf, if you have experience, if not, it is better to make pockets in the side seam.
2. Turn over the shoulder sections and stitch them in an overhead way.
3. Turn over the armhole and the collar of the sleeve, sew in the sleeve, putting the armhole on it.
4. Turn over the side-sleeve seam and sew it overhead. If the pockets are planned in the side seam, then first edging the details of the burlap along the “round cut”, stitching the pocket burlap to the side cuts, edging the cuts, and then stitch them.
5. Turn over the horizontal cuts of the pick and grind.
6. Sew with oblique stitches interlining in the area of ​​the one-piece selection.
7. Process the selection with landing.
8. Turn over the departure cut of the selection.
9. Cut out the collars, based on the length of the neck.
10. Finish the collar.
11. Sweep and stitch the collar.
12. Cover the visible part of the neckline with bias tape, if necessary, and sew on a loop.
13. Trim the bottom and hem it by hand.
14. 14. Before attaching (hemming) the pickguard, install the hooks or buttons. Then, the flyaway section of the selection is hemmed by hand.
