Before sewing leather with your own hands, you should know that it comes in different types - different dressing, thickness and purpose.
If we talk about clothing leather, then it is thinner and softer than haberdashery and shoe leather.
In any case, you will need a special needle with a “spade” sharpening, a special foot, glue tape for “sweeping” the skin and, possibly, rubber glue (you can take “Moment”).
The main difficulty faced when sewing leather is the inability to sew the same seam twice, since each extra needle puncture reduces the strength of the product and spoils its appearance.
In addition, it is almost impossible to sweep the skin, but to make your work easier, you can use a double-sided adhesive tape (see photo) to pre-connect some seams or hem the edge of the part.
For example, before sewing in a sleeve or sewing on a curly yoke.
As for the paws, one of the most popular is the Teflon foot.
Its surface allows the skin to slide and is suitable not only for sewing natural, but also for artificial leather, clothing latex and oilcloth.
These presser feet are sold with industrial attachments and home attachments.
And for attaching zippers to leather products, a one-sided Teflon foot is used.
An alternative to Teflon paws are all kinds of paws with wheels.
They tightly press the skin and work like an upper conveyor, moving it forward.
And, perhaps, the last point that you need to know before you start sewing leather with your own hands.
The skin can be ironed, but you should carefully consider the choice of temperature. An iron that is too hot will deform the leather and make it stiff, but even if the iron is not too hot, the leather should be ironed through the iron.
You can not wet the skin, but you can slightly moisten the iron.
