Attention! This technology has nothing to do with sewing a classic jacket or a traditional lined coat and has a very narrow application.

How to handle seams when sewing this coat and seam allowances

We start by choosing a method for processing seams - they can be stitched or overhead.

Stitched seam - the parts are folded in half face to face and grinded, and the seam allowances must be ironed out.

Overhead seam - the details are applied inside out on the face and grinded, the seam is ironed.

In the photo, an overlay seam is selected, but you can choose any option.

The allowances for the seam will be 1 - 1,2 cm, and for the overhead 0,7 - 1 cm.

Allowances are added along the middle seam of the back, along the side and shoulder seams, along the seam of the sewing in of the sleeve - add as desired, along the cut of the sewing in of the collar - 0,7 - 1 cm.

No allowances are added along the armholes and sprout (back neck). You can add up to 1 cm along the neckline in the flare area (visible area of ​​​​the junction of the collar and the collar). If you do not add along the flare, you will have to cut off the edge of the lapel.

Speaking of the shape of the lapel. The pattern shows three options for the design of the lapel and three options for the design of the end of the collar. The final choice of the outlines of the lapel and collar, as well as the markings of the welt pocket, should be postponed until fitting.

And a few words about the middle back seam, which is not in the photo. What is it for? In order to “get away” from the share direction along the midline of the back. If the middle seam has a slight bevel, the back will not become shorter than the side seams and will fit better. The same applies to the side seams - here it is also important to get away from the shared direction.

The sequence of cutting and sewing this coat with your own hands

If the fabric is double-sided, then the pick-up is not needed, if it is one-sided, then we cut out the pick-up according to the pattern of the shelf, and preferably along the shelf itself. The width of the selection from the bend and the edge of the side should be at least 5 - 7 cm. The allowances are the same as for the shelf.

Please note that it is advisable to clarify the length of the product and sleeve before cutting, comparing the patterns with the finished coat.

Cutting is not difficult. The fabric is folded in half face to face, the patterns are laid out taking into account the shared direction and allowances for seams.

Please note that it is better to cut out the collar and collar after trying on and processing the shoulder seams, since it is possible that you will refine the contour of the collar and side, and the neckline will inevitably stretch.

Thus, when cutting the collar, the actual length of the neck of the product will be taken into account.

For fitting, the collar can be cut out from any other fabric that is similar in texture or from ordinary non-woven fabric. The lobar thread of the upper collar runs along the midline and therefore we lay the pattern with the midline on the fold of the fabric.

We collect the coat for fitting, carefully sweeping and ironing the shoulder and side seams. You can also sweep the sleeve. If the coat has a shoulder pad, then it should be made and attached.

The lower collar is prepared for fitting in a special way: the departure edge and the stand area are pulled off with an iron. Of course, if this is a rough collar made of interlining or cotton fabric, you should not do a guy line.

When trying on, you should make sure that the pocket is in the right place, the width of the sleeve suits you, and the shape of the lapel and collar matches your desire.

Stitch the middle seam of the back, shoulder sections, sew in the sleeve, sew the side seams. After each connecting operation, do not forget to iron the seam.

Then, you should cut out the lower and upper collar with a selection. It is better to cut out the selection on the shelf. The lower collar - based on the length of the neck, and the upper collar - according to the details of the lower collar.

Now we start turning the collar and sides. Please note that in the case of simplified processing, the details of the upper collar and the bands are superimposed and adjusted. It seems to be simple, but there is a nuance.

The upper collar should be applied to the lower one with a slight fit so that the ends of the collar do not rise on the figure. For selection, a fit in the lapel area is required. It is better if, before machine work, you perform a preliminary basting, observing the desired fit.

Stitching in and stitching in the collar is not difficult - the lower collar is stitched into the neck, the upper one into the collar.

After tucking in, check the symmetry of the sides and ends of the collar. Only after that the collar is sewn.
