Photo of a sewn dress according to this patternSewn according to this dress pattern by Svetlana NikolaevaYulia Komolova: “I didn’t change anything in the pattern. I only had to do it on the lining because the fabric is translucent. I didn’t understand what length it should be with the sleeves. I got the pattern and not 3/4, and not the full length. In general, I love your patterns, all the dresses fit well, at least I like everything that I sewed. Thank you!"

Svetlana Nikolaeva: "Thank you) a very simple and understandable pattern. A variant from the sleeve pattern "short". Size 48. Basic cotton fabric + lined cambric."

Description of the design of the A-line dress with sleeves

The pattern is made on the basis of the Sapozhkov cut.

This dress has a free silhouette and allows you to "play" with sizes. The lighter and thinner the fabric, the more you can choose the size.

2. What to sew a summer or warm A-line dress with sleeves from

You can sew a “lady-peasant woman” dress with a trapeze silhouette from almost any fairly soft fabric.

For the summer version, thin natural fabrics are ideal - thin chintz, staple or linen. It is worth paying attention to the fact that now there is very little natural chintz and linen. Any staple fits.

It can be sewn from silk fabric, but it is not advisable to use satin and other sliding materials, since products based on a boot cut “like” to crawl up. And, if you want to open your shoulders, then the atlas will crawl up faster.

As mentioned above, for thin fabrics, you can choose a size with a higher number to increase the allowance for loose fit and increase the tightness of the assembly.

A-line dress with raglan sleeves in coupon fabricTo choose the size, as usual, you should measure the half-girths of the chest and hips, and then the pattern. It's good if you can measure your favorite blouse, dress or similar product for comparison.

For a warm dress, you can choose fine wool, wool with silk and knitted fabrics.

From knitwear, only very loose and heavy fabrics should be avoided.

The consumption will be, depending on the size, from 160 to 230 cm - this is with a long sleeve and with a width of 230 cm.

coupon fabrics

Consider separately the coupon fabric with a wide pattern in the form of a border, as in the photo.

The consumption of the coupon fabric depends on whether it is the only strip of the pattern and whether this very strip of the pattern will be located on the sleeve or the sleeve will be cut out from another piece of fabric.

So, if we have one wide strip on the side of one of the edges and we need a pattern on the sleeve and hem of the dress, then the coupon fabric consumption will be from 220 to 280 cm, depending on the size (see picture 4).

If the pattern strip is only on the dress, then the consumption will be reduced to 130 - 180 cm, that is, only the total width of the back and shelves is taken into account.

If the pattern has a symmetrical rapport, then it is desirable to increase the fabric consumption by the length of the rapport.

It is better to buy fabrics with a very large or complex pattern, having the final edited patterns with you in order to perform a preliminary layout right in the store.

A cord for a drawstring or an elastic band - from 100 cm. You should calculate according to the girth of the shoulders, that is, at the place of the drawstring.

4. How to cut a simple trapeze dress according to a finished pattern

Cut from ordinary fabrics for the smallest sizes according to the pattern with your own handsThe cutting is very simple, but before proceeding to the cutting, you need to understand how to process the top cut of the dress and sleeves, as well as the bottom of the sleeve.

The easiest option is a drawstring with an elastic band - a double hem and a small hole for pulling the elastic. Or, as shown in the photo, pulling the cord into the holes. An open cut hem (overcast and fold once) and loops or metal fittings are suitable for the cord.

Another interesting version of the drawstring with a frill, which is suitable both for processing the upper cut and the bottom of the sleeve in this dress. Calculation of allowances - see the third point on the link - “Sleeves with an elastic band”.

An example of the original processing of the drawstring and free baby dress pattern

The fabric for cutting, in any case, is folded in half, the shelf is located on the fold with a half-slide (middle line).

The seam allowances are as follows.

On the middle seam of the back, side seams and the seam of the sleeve - 1 cm.

No seam allowances are added for the armhole and raglan.

On the upper cut of the front and back, as well as on the bottom of the sleeve - from 3 to 5 cm, depending on how you want to process the top.

An example of cutting from a coupon fabric a-line dress with a raglan sleeveOn the bottom - 2, 5 - 3 cm.

On the 2 drawing cutting from regular fabrics is shown for the smallest sizes, the layout for medium and large looks something like on 3 drawing.

Cutting from a coupon has other rules - the patterns are laid out so that they have a pattern in the right places.

An example of coupon fabric cutting is shown in 4 drawing - pattern on the hem of the dress and on the sleeve, as in the photo.

If the pattern is geometric, then you should achieve a very accurate match along the middle seam of the back and along the side seams. That is, before cutting out the back, check for a clear match of the pattern along the middle seam. Then, before cutting out the shelf, check again that the pattern matches the side seams.

After the cutting is done, it is necessary to make notches for the pocket, if you plan it.

To do this, fold all 4 side cuts together and, stepping back from the waistline by 5-7 cm, make the top notch of the pocket. Attach the burlap and make a second notch.

5. How to sew a simple a-line dress - sewing sequence

  1. We grind and weave or weave the middle seam of the back and the sleeve seam. For thin cotton fabrics, you can use linen sewing seam, and for thin silk - double (the first line in a narrow zigzag). The seams are carefully ironed. If the dress is without pockets, then you can also use a sewing or double seam for the side seams.
  2. If the dress has pockets, we sew the burlap along the notches to the side cuts, overcast or edging a fragment of the seam “above the burlap” and iron it. We grind the side seams through the burlap, overcast or edging.
  3. Sweep and stitch the sleeve, slightly stretching the seam. Please note that the sleeve and side seams MUST NOT match. This will simplify the processing and, when using a double or linen seam (for side, middle and sleeve), will make the armpit seam thinner. The armhole is overcast or edged. The seam how to cut a dress a-line peasant lady according to a simple pattern pic 4iron, slightly stretching and lay the second line at a distance of 0,1 cm from the first, slightly stretching. We iron again.
  4. We process the drawstring and the bottom of the sleeve in the manner chosen earlier.
  5. We pull in an elastic band or cord and carry out the fitting. I want to note that there are "cunning" variants of the drawstring. For example, - an elastic band to the ends of which a cord or cord is attached, on which the drawstring is fixed at the seams of the armhole.
  6. Bottom - hem with an open cut (overcast and fold once) or hem with a closed cut (fold twice). For convenience, the hem is marked from the inside in double size. For example, if you need to bend it by 2 cm, then we outline the line 4 cm from the bottom cut. For a hem with an open cut - the line is 2 cm from the cut and ironed by 1 cm, again marked by 3 - 3,5 cm and ironed by 1,5 or 1,7 cm. In a word, after marking, apply the lower cut to the marking and iron . If this is your first product, sweep the bottom at a distance of 0,5 from the place of the machine line so that the basting does not fall under the line. And in any case, it should be ironed before laying the hem stitch and after removing the basting thread.
