Description of the design of the dress and style

Pattern Dresses made on the basis of a trapezoid with a tuck from the armhole.
The trapezium-base of the shelf is also included in the kit for subsequent adjustment - correction of the shelf after assembly.
The silhouette is free.
The shelf has decorative folds emerging from the darts.

Drawing patterns from pdf patterns of a full-size trapeze dressAdditionally, a line for finishing stitching is marked on the top of the shelf, which can be made as a tucked stitch.
This approach allows you to save the decorative line, but not complicate the design.

The lower part of the shelf consists of two parts that are superimposed on each other, forming a smell.

The pocket is marked on the right lower part of the shelf and can be made as a regular pocket in the seam or as a pocket with a burlap entry line facing.
You can also make a pocket with a set-in or with a lining sheet. But the leaf option is recommended only for experienced tailors.

The back is also detachable, its lower part is assembled.

The kit also includes sleeves of two fundamentally different designs:

  1. A non-stop sleeve, also known as a shirt sleeve, should be used in large-volume products that do not require a perfect fit. As you know, such a sleeve requires an even distribution of the fit along the entire length of the armhole and is very easy to stitch in, as it does not require fitting and preliminary tucking.
  2. The narrow sleeve is suitable for experienced tailors and gives a very precise fit. Especially well the narrow sleeve sits down after fitting and precise correction of the armhole on the figure.

This style of dress is ideal for full women with wide hips, including owners of figures that combine two sizes.

What to sew this trapeze dress from and how much fabric is consumed

Photo for a pattern of a trapeze dress with two types of sleeves and pleats 3For sewing this dress, dense knitwear and a fairly thin footer (with a pile of “loops”, and not with a thick “felt”) can be considered the most suitable.

You can also use dress wool and suit fabric.

However, the only criterion for choosing a fabric should be its ability to hold the fold well enough.

For this reason, purely natural linen and other fabrics without an admixture of synthetics are hardly suitable. In this case, the fold will have to be stitched or glued.

Consumption will be 220 - 280 cm with a width of 140 - 150 cm.

For a footer with a width of 180 cm, the consumption is from 180 to 220 cm.

How to cut a trapeze dress according to a finished pattern

How to cut a trapezoid dress with sleeves and a fold on the shelf according to the finished pattern fig. 2We start by choosing the size, measuring the pattern along the upper part of the back and along the whole shelf (picture 1).

If it is not planned to adjust the neckline during the fitting, then according to the patterns of the back and shelves, you can immediately cut out the facings for the neck (figure 2 on the left).

It is better to cut out facings immediately from dublerin and without allowances for seams. Allowances are easy to add later by gluing the facings on the remaining pieces of fabric after cutting. Allowances of 1 cm should be added only in places where the facing fragments are interconnected.

The rest of the allowances are also in the majority of 1 cm. The exceptions are the bottom - 2,5 - 3, and the bottom of the sleeve is 1,5 cm. 2, 3 и 4).

Do-it-yourself dress pattern on fabric 140 cm wideSeparately, it is worth talking about allowances for the upper part of the shelf in the area of the bust tuck and soft fold (figure 2 on the right).

Here the allowance should also be 1 cm, but on it you need to make notches that limit the fold and cut the tuck.

Once again, in order about the notches: the notch on the left 0,7 cm limits the fold and is performed vertically; notch on the right 0,7 cm horizontal on the allowance of the right side of the tuck; the third notch cuts the tuck.

Such a dissection of the allowances will allow you to cleanly and simply process the crease on the shelf.

Now let's dwell briefly on the asymmetrical details of the shelf. They are unpaired and cut out on a fabric spread in one layer. In order not to turn over unpaired parts, it is better to lay them out for cutting on the front side of the fabric. It may look amateurish, but it eliminates cut errors.

So, it's time to start cutting:

  1. We fold the fabric in half face to face, and the footer is wrong side to wrong side. We combine the edges and place them parallel to the edge of the cutting table.
  2. We lay out paired parts on the fabric, taking into account the shared direction and allowances for the seams (figures 3 - 4).
  3. Pattern do-it-yourself trapezoid dress on fabric 180 cm wideOn the 3 drawing shows an approximate layout on a fabric 140 cm wide, and on 4 drawing - on fabric 180 cm wide.
  4. On the fold we lay the upper part of the shelf and the lower part of the back. Ideally, it would be possible to lay the upper part of the back in a fold, but it is better to do it with a seam, since a fastener can be easily made on a back with a seam, leaving a fragment of the middle seam unstitched.
  5. After the paired parts are cut out, we unfold the fabric in one layer and cut out the asymmetric lower fragments of the shelf (see the upper part of Fig. 3 - 4).
  6. On the remnants of the fabric, we lay out the blanks of the facings, glue them on and add allowances for the seams at the junctions of their parts.

Having finished cutting, we perform notches and marking of parts, as shown in the drawings.

How to sew a dress with your own hands step by step

The easiest way to sew at home and without trying on:

  1. We process the pocket in any way. The easiest option: turn the lower right part of the shelf with burlap according to the pocket marking with a “rectangle”; iron; lay a finishing line; stitch and overcast both burlap; iron.
  2. Run the finishing stitch on the shelf or skip this step.
  3. Sweep and iron a soft crease; stitch, overcast and iron the tuck.
  4. Complete the back assembly. The presence or absence of a fastener is determined by the length of the neck - if the length of the neck suits, the fastener is not needed.
  5. Assemble the shelf, while the bottom must first be overcast, folded and swept.
  6. Compare the result with the pattern of the whole shelf. Set up the shelf, i.e. make it congruent with the pattern, leaving allowances for the seams.
  7. Finish the shoulder seams, sew in a non-stop sleeve, finish the side seams. If the sleeve is with a fit (“narrow”), then after processing the sleeve, shoulder and side seams, the sleeve should be swept in and stitched in.
  8. Then, the neck and bottom are processed into a hem with an open cut - overcast, fold, perform a fixing line (finishing, stitching or hidden by machine or by hand).
