Sleeve patterns for a-line dressSewing difficulty level: simple - a pattern for beginner home couturiers with basic cutting and sewing skills, if you sew a dress without pockets.

The level of difficulty, if you sew a trapeze dress with pockets, is medium.

If you are sewing a welt pocket for the first time, then it makes sense to try it on a small patch of fabric for practice.

Usually, the first time such pockets are not obtained with high quality.

Do-it-yourself pattern of facings for the sprout and neck when sewing a dressThe facings of the sprout (neck of the back) and the neck are cut out according to the patterns of the bodice.

The expense for a long-sleeved A-line dress will be 150 - 170 cm, depending on the size. This is with a fabric width of 140 cm.

The consumption for a trapeze dress with a 3/4 sleeve will be 130 - 160 cm, with a fabric width of 140 cm.

What to sew a cutaway trapezoid dress with a pleat from?

For sewing this dress, it is better to use gabardine or other dress wool. It is important that the fabric holds the WTO (wet heat treatment, ironing) folds well.

Features of a pattern with your own hands a-line dress with pleats

The most common question that buyers of my ready-made patterns ask is about the zipper:

Does this dress need a zipper?

In this model, it is unlikely that it will be possible to do without a zipper, since the bodice is adjacent.
It is better to stitch the zipper to the middle seam of the back.
See sewing video for beginners with a detailed description - how to sew a zipper with your own hands at home without special tools, using the paws that come with the machine.

Pattern do-it-yourself trapezoid dress with a pleat of small sizesThe second most common question is how to process the neck.

The best option for a similar shape with corners is turning. As mentioned earlier, the facings are cut out according to the patterns of the bodice from dublerin without allowances for seams (picture 2). You will add seam allowances later when you glue the piping blanks on the fabric just before cutting out. Allowances - 1 cm and they will be needed only in the places where the facing fragments are sewn - along the shoulder and along the side seams.

The seam allowances for the remaining parts are as follows (figures 3 и 4).

Shoulder, side, lower cut of the bodice, front-back seams of the sleeve - 1 cm each. No allowances are added along the sprout (back neck) and neck (front neck), as well as along the armhole and sleeve hem. Remember that adding allowances along concave lines reduces their length and distorts the pattern.

An allowance is not required along the upper cut of the skirt, as well as along the bottom - it depends on the length you need in the finished form and the method of processing the bottom of the dress.

And also sewing video how to process the bottom of the dress at home in a variety of ways.

In places of darts and soft folds, a small “house” should be made when cutting out and limited by notches.

Now let's move on to cutting. Before cutting, we check the length of the sleeve and the overall length of the product, comparing the pattern and your favorite dress.

The layout for small sizes is shown in 3 drawing, for medium and large -  4 drawing.

The fabric is folded in half, the edges should be aligned and placed parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

The share thread of the back and shelves, RF and PP coincides with the middle lines. Please note: with middle lines, not middle seams!

To facilitate the task, the share direction is indicated on the patterns. The half-skid of the shelf and the PP are laid on the fold of the fabric - the middle line of the shelf is called the half-skid and, of course, coincides with the shared thread.

A sleeve with an assembly along the collar can be cut out along an oblique thread, but at the same time, the cutting of the fabric will greatly increase.

Facings are cut out last with allowances at the joints of their parts, but dubbing blanks are first glued onto the fabric. Pay attention to the fractional direction of the thread in the facings: the contour of the neck should NOT coincide with the fractional or transverse thread.

How to sew a trapezoid dress with folds with your own hands for beginners step by step

  1. Photo of sewn trapeze dresses with a pleat for a girl and for an adult womanWe start sewing the dress with assembling the bodice: we grind and iron the tucks, then we grind, overcast and iron the shoulder, side and middle seams. The middle seam is not completely sewn - the lower 15 cm are swept under the "zipper".
  2. Next, we grind and iron the tuck on the sleeve (if it is a sleeve without an assembly along the collar, but with a normal fit), we grind, overcast and iron the seam.
  3. We start assembling the skirt by basting the folds on the PP, having previously marked the fold lines with a lining seam (like basting, but the stitches are large up to 3,5 cm and one layer of fabric each). As seen in fig. 1,3,4, not all three lines of the pleat are parallel - the slope of the midline of the skirt makes it easy to perform the desired expansion.
  4. The fold on the RFP is also swept in, the seams are ground and overcast - the middle one in the upper part is swept under the zipper - 10-15 cm is enough. The folds are ironed and the seams are ironed out.
  5. After that, you can do the sample.
  6. On the fitting, the length of the bodice, its fit is specified. Then you should sweep the sleeve and sweep the bodice with the skirt, combining the side folds and, if possible, the side seams. You can immediately baste the zipper and then try on the dress again and clarify the location of the pockets, if they are planned.
  7. At the same time, the fold on the PP remains swept up.
