How to mark and add a zipper pocket when sewing from a pattern

Drawing of a marking of a pocket on a lightning when tailoringPhoto of outerwear options according to patterns with zippered pocketsOne of the easiest ways to make adjustments to the styles sewn from ready-made patterns of dresses and skirts is to add simple pockets.

This type of pocket is also suitable for any jackets and vests.

The zippered pocket is also suitable for processing the lining of outerwear for men and women.

But for the back pocket of trousers, it is not suitable, since it is not wear-resistant enough.

How to make a zipper pocket when sewing clothes

It's importantIt is made very simply, but it should be done before the part (shelves, coquette, lining fragment or selection) is connected to the product.

We start with the markup on the front side of the part (figure 1a).

These are four straight lines.

The horizontal lines mark the height of the "frame", between the verticals - the length of the pocket.

Zipper processing pattern in pocketMarking is best done with contrasting threads (interlining stitch) so that it can be seen from both sides.

Be sure to clearly mark the corners.

After marking, we cut the entrance to the pocket (figure 1b), turn the part with the cut inside out, “open” the rectangle and iron it exactly according to the markup (figure 1c).

We put a “zipper” under the ironed hole, tack and stitch it with one machine line (picture 2).

Then we sew the burlap, laying the second finishing and bartack line along the pocket perimeter.

To increase the strength of the pocket, you can add another line.

To do this, first we sew the burlap to the “zipper” braid and only then we lay the second finishing and bartack line along the pocket perimeter.

If the product is unlined, the burlap should be overcast or edged.
