6. How to cut a vest or jacket with a hood according to the finished pattern
Once again about the choice of size - we compare the volumes of the pattern with the control product. For example, with your favorite jacket.
We select the size based on the girth of the chest and hips, measured according to the finished control product in the buttoned up form.
If you are cutting from an already quilted raincoat fabric or plan to quilt the front with two or three lines on thin insulation, you will not need increased allowances. 1 cm is enough, but we do not add an allowance to the neck and armholes.
An approximate layout of patterns on the fabric of the top is shown in figure 2.
After cutting the details of the "top" and marking the pockets, proceed to cutting the insulation. To do this, lay out the top parts in the most economical way on the insulation spread out in one layer and baste or pin them on the insulation without taking into account the shared direction.
Cut out with an allowance of 1 - 2 cm, so that after fastening the "top" with the insulation, carefully cut off the protruding insulation.
If you cut a raincoat fabric and insulation from a “sandwich”, then it should not be folded in half before cutting, it is better to spread it in one layer with the raincoat fabric up.
The lining fabric is cut in the same way (picture 3) - we lay out the patterns in the most economical way and add an allowance of 1 cm to all sections, except for the sprout (back neck) and armholes.
You can not add an allowance to the burlap.
How to cut the details of the leaf pocket - "leaflet" and "valance". These are rectangles.
The size of the finished leaflet will be 17 by 7 cm, the gap can be the same size or 17 by 5 cm.
If you are sewing a vest, then you need to cut out rectangles for the cuffs.
Cut-out cuff width = 2 finished widths + 2 cm.
Cut-out cuff length = armhole length minus 5 cm.
7. How to sew a jacket and a vest with a hood at home - sequence
- Quilt and / or connect the insulation with the details of the top along the edge with machine stitching. Cut off the protruding insulation, if necessary, adjust the details according to the patterns.
- Process the pockets of the leaflet - watch the video on sewing
- Collect the "top" - shoulder, sleeve, side. The sleeve is sewn in without tucking in, the collar is evenly distributed along the armhole. If you are sewing a vest, then a “cuff” is sewn to the armhole, previously ironed in half and joined into a “ring”. In this case, the cuff is sewn after the side seam has been processed. Pay attention to the fact that the cuff seam and the side seam do not match.
- Assemble the lining - connect the lining of the shelf with the selection, the lining of the back - with the continuation of the selection, shoulder, sleeve, side. When assembling the lining of the jacket, leave a "pass" on the sleeve seam 20 cm long, when assembling the vest - on the side seam. These "skips" (holes, unstitched areas) of the seams are necessary for processing the penultimate seam of a jacket or vest.
- Stitch the zipper to the sides of the "top".
- Connect "top" and "lining".
- Assemble the hood.
- Sweep and stitch the hood into the neck.
- Close the last seam on the lining by hand or machine.
