Natural silk fabrics will look good. For example, crepe de chine and chiffon.

4. How to cut a dress - a boho sundress according to a finished pattern
If you are cutting a dress from natural fabrics, be sure to wash the fabric by hand in warm water with the addition of gentle detergents that are used to wash cashmere and natural silk before cutting.
Before cutting, it is worth deciding how you will process the armholes and the neck. There are three options:
- Overstitch using the "lower" bodice as a overstitch. This option is ideal for sewing fine to very fine fabrics. At the same time, the double bodice can be very short (picture 2) or the length of the dress itself, if the fabric is transparent. In this case, the maximum length of the lower bodice should correspond to the upper part of the shelf, and its lower edge should be attached to the seam of the connection of the upper and lower parts of the shelf.
- The armholes and neck can be edged with a binder. Example edging slices on a household sewing machine is shown in the video master class
And in video how to replace overlock
3. Stitch neckline and armholes with bias tapeusing inlay instead of facing
After choosing the method of processing armholes and necks, we proceed to cutting (figures 2 , 3 и 4).
Seam allowances are standard - 1 - 1,2 cm for the shoulder and side seams, as well as for the middle seam of the back and the seam of the connection of the upper and lower parts of the front.
We do not add allowances to the neck and armholes.
On the bottom - 1,5 cm and expand the allowance, as shown in the pictures 3 и 4.
For burlap pockets, allowances can be added or not added, depending on the size of the hands. Place your palm on the pocket burlap pattern to determine.
The middle back seam is desirable, as its presence will reduce the deformation of the back when worn, compensating for the stretching of the side seams.
The share direction of the back and shelves is parallel to the midlines. For the lower bodice, the share can be located arbitrarily, but the same in mirror details. Pocket burlap - one pair should be cut so that the cut of the pocket entrance coincides with the share.
So, if we need a “lower” bodice (or “cover”), we will cut it out according to the same patterns with the same seam allowances as the front and back. The “lower” shelf with a seam can only be made if the fabric does not shine through.
Now let's take a closer look at cutting small sizes (picture 3). In this case, the detail of the lower part of the shelf runs in half the width of the fabric. The fabric is folded in half, the parts are laid out in an economic way.
For large sizes, when the lower part of the shelf does not pass through half the width of the fabric (picture 3), you can cut in two stages or spread the fabric in one layer.
For cutting in three steps:
- Fold the fabric in half and cut out the back and shelf, as in the previous case.
- We cut out the lower part of the shelf, spreading the fabric in one layer.
- Cut out the rest of the details.
What kind of cutting would you choose, after finishing it, you need to make notches:
- Notches at the waist, folding all four side cuts. Notch length 0,5 cm.
- Notches for the pocket, while all four side cuts are still folded - down from the waist by 5 - 7 cm. For convenience, attach burlap to the side cuts.
- Half skid notches on shelf details. Half skid - the middle line of the shelf and torso.
5. How to sew a loose dress - do-it-yourself boho sundress
If you decide to treat open sections with bias trim, you need to decide whether it will be a trim from the main fabric or whether it will be a ready-made purchased trim.
The middle seam of the back, as well as the side seam, the seam connecting the top and bottom of the shelf, is recommended to be processed sewing (linen) seam or double seam using a zigzag.
The linen stitch is well suited for sewing delicate cotton and linen fabrics. For silk - double (stitched with open cuts on the “face”, ironed, trimmed, ironed “on the edge”, stitched a second time in a narrow zigzag and ironed).
Now the sewing sequence.
- Finish the middle seam of the back with a double stitch or a back stitch. Iron.
- Process the bottom of the lower part of the shelf and the bottom of the back into a hem with a closed cut - fold twice and iron. You can bend it on a snail-type device. See how such a device for household sewing machines looks like and how to bend the bottom without basting using an example shorts sewing video
- Fold the lower parts of the shelf so that the half-drift line coincides. Chip or sweep these parts.
- Topstitch or double stitch (whichever you choose) the seam connecting the top and bottom of the front.
- Finish the side seams. Iron. Shoulder seams are not processed.
- Process the side seams of the bodice. The shoulder seams remain unfinished.
- Overstitch the neckline and armholes of the shelf with the bodice, then the sprout and armholes of the back. When turning the sprout, you can make a “drop” type fastener.
- After turning and ironing, the back is turned inside out and “put on” on the shelf so that the shoulder seams of the shelf are “threaded” into the shoulder seams of the back until the cuts match. After that, the shoulder sections are ground and everted.
- Next - finishing lines along the neck and armholes. Processing of a free cut of the lower bodice and bartacking at the side seams.
- Finishing ironing.
