Description of the design of dresses that can be sewn using this pattern

Patterns of a raglan dress with a cigar silhouette with a hood photo 3Both styles are characterized by the laconicism of a casual style - a loose silhouette, tapering towards the bottom, makes the dress look like a cigar or a cocoon.

For a dress with a hood, the sleeve has no seam and the long cuff allows you to cover your hands.

A simple hood and side-seam pockets highlight the design's intentional simplicity.

For a dress with a collar, some options are possible - a “small” or “large” neck and different lengths.

What fabric to choose and what will be its consumption?

When choosing fabric, keep in mind that it will be quite difficult to walk in a dress that is tapered to the bottom, so you need a balance between the volume you choose, the stretchability of the fabric and the length of the product.

In other words, the longer the dress, the looser it should be (larger size) and the better the fabric should stretch.

We choose only among elastic knitwear and cooler fabrics.

If you choose angora or rabbit knitwear for a dress with a hood, make sure that the fabric stretches well and, which is also important, the fabric should not be heavy, since heavy fabrics have the unpleasant property of stretching under their own weight and deforming the product.

Should you use a footer? Why not. But the main requirements remain the same - the footer must be elastic and not too heavy.

Patterns of a simple raglan dressTotal consumption for model with collar following:

Fabric consumption with a width of 150 cm will be from 150 to 200 cm.

Consumption for a width of 180 cm – from 120 to 180 cm.

For a combined dress with a collar with a width of 150 cm, you will need 60-80 cm for the sleeves, and 100-220 cm for the front back.

Consumption for model with hood such:

With a width of 150 cm - from 220 to 280 cm.

With a width of 180 cm - from 160 to 230 cm.

To clarify the consumption for a specific option and size, it is recommended to pre-lay out the patterns on the fabric.

When calculating the fabric, consider not only the size, but also whether your hood will be double.

How to cut a raglan dress cocoon cigar hoodie using a ready-made pattern

How to cut an oversized raglan dress with a hood using a ready-made pattern (Fig. 2)For this style it is extremely important to choose the right size. Focus not on the number, but on the desired volume of the finished product.

Measure the sum of the width of the back and shelf, compare with your favorite voluminous product.

Measure the width of the backrest at the bottom and compare it with the length of your step - step and measure the circumference of your legs at the level of the knee or shin.

When the size is selected, check the length of the sleeve plus the mitts and compare with the sleeve measurement from the side of the neck along the arm bent at the elbow.

If necessary, adjust the length of the cuff on the pattern and you can cut it.

No seam allowances are required. The most likely simple layouts are shown in Fig. 2.

Pay attention to the middle back seam.

If you cannot do without it, do not cut it strictly along the grain thread, “step back along the bottom,” as noted in your pattern and in Fig. 2–3.

When cutting out a large dress on fabric 150 cm wide, you will find that the sleeve does not fit. Sometimes it is possible to fit the sleeves if you unfold the fabric and cut out each sleeve separately, but if this is not possible, you can cut out an additional piece. In this case, it is advisable to avoid the fractional direction for the seam.

Finally, there are notches for the pocket.

We put all four side cuts together and align them, put the pocket burlap with the notches marked on them and make notches on the side cuts. The length of the notch is 0,5 cm.

It is also advisable to make notches at the waist level and mark the half-skid line (the middle line of the shelf) with thread.

Features of cutting a dress with a collar

How to cut an oversized raglan dress with a collar using a ready-made pattern (Fig. 3)The cutting of this model has no fundamental differences (Fig. 3) - the same middle seam, which can be avoided only by increasing the fabric consumption, almost the same raglan.

Please note that in some cases sleeve patterns can be combined into one.

Don't forget to also make notches and half-skid markings after cutting.

How to sew an oversized dress with a hood or collar at home

The most important thing is to set up the overlocker and machine for the desired seams (links above), and the sewing sequence is very simple.

Stitching is done using a knitted seam, unless other seams are specified.

  1. Sew the middle seam. If a dress with a collar has a zipper, then stitch the zipper.
  2. Sew the burlap with a narrow zigzag - stitch between the notches, iron.
  3. Sew the sleeves and press the seams.
  4. Sew shoulder seams and press, side seams and press.
  5. Treat the hood or collar. Iron.
  6. Sew in a hood or collar.
  7. Process cuffs.
  8. Stitch cuffs.
  9. Work the bottom into an open hem (fold once). You can use a double needle, you can use a cover stitch, you can use a large zigzag stitch or another elastic stitch that your machine makes. Iron.
