How to cut a sweatshirt with your own hands with a thumb hole

We start, as usual, with an understanding of what variation of the sweatshirt style we are interested in.

Then, choose the size by comparing the width of the pattern with the width of your favorite sweatshirt or bust and hips.

If you sew a sweatshirt with dovyaz cuffs, then it is better to use a pattern of a wide raglan sleeve. Without cuffs - a pattern of narrow raglan sleeves.

Of course, the length of the sleeve BEFORE CUTTING must be checked with the length of the sleeve of a similar product or measured according to the figure.

In this case, we take a measure of the length of the sleeve from the side point of the neck through the shoulder point along the arm bent at the elbow directly along the elbow and up to the wrist (under the cuffs or a regular sleeve) or to the desired length (under the sleeve with a hole for the thumb).

Based on the obtained measurement Dr (sleeve length), we adjust the length of the raglan sleeve pattern - lengthen or shorten (picture 2).

We check the width of the sleeve, we compare the width of the sleeve with the girths of the arm. The width of the narrow sleeve pattern should be compared with the girth of the wrist and with the girth of the clenched fist.

When the size is selected and adjustments to the patterns are made, you can mark the hole for the thumb.

To do this, fold the sleeve pattern in half at the bottom and in half again. We retreat 1/4 of the sleeve width along the bottom from the cut of the front seam. Up from the point "1/4" - 7 - 10 cm, depending on the total Dr.

The hole is made in the form of an oval 4 by 2,5 cm. If necessary, the hole can be enlarged later.

And we also need a gap, which we will cut later on the right shelf 27 - 28 cm long and 4 - 4,5 cm wide (picture 3) and no seam allowances. The shelf at the same time is superimposed "face" up on the "face" of the fabric. The valance can be single with an edged or swept edge (for a fleece footer) or double (for a thin footer or cooler).

The facing of the neck of the shelf can also be cut out later. Seam allowances are not required. The facing can also be cut out according to the details of the shelf, and not according to the pattern. You don't need to duplicate.

Please note that when cutting, you do not need to add seam allowances, except for 2,5 cm along the bottom. Outline and cut out, keeping the stroke line.

The fabric for cutting is folded in half. The footer is more convenient to cut if folded inside out, that is, “in the face”. The pattern is laid out in the most economical way.

Notches

Immediately after cutting, we perform notches for pockets along the side cuts. We fold the side sections of the shelves and the back all 4 together, apply the burlap, stepping back from the bottom WITHOUT taking into account the hem 8 - 10 cm.

On the right shelf, we mark the length of the fastener along the length of the zipper from the side of the short side seam and also make a notch.

The length of the notches is 0,5 cm, that is, it should not exceed the width of the knitted overlock seam.

How to sew a sweatshirt / sweatshirt with your own ruami step by step

1. We outline a semi-skid with threads - the middle lines of the shelves. In the process of assembling the product, we check that the semi-skids of the shelves overlap one another.
2. We attach a zipper to the right shelf along the cut of the raglan from the side of the short side seam, fold it with the raglan of the left shelf and grind them down to the notch. The seam is “turned out”, ironed.
3. We sew the second braid of the zipper to the swept or turned gap.
4. We sew the burlap pockets to the side seams, iron the seams.
5. We sew on the overlock with a knitted seam to the cut of the raglan of the back, the cut of the back cut of the raglan of the sleeve (from the RF side), iron the seam.

11. Bottom - in a hem with an open cut - fold 1 time, sweep and iron, fasten with a stitch using a double needle or on a sewing machine.
12. Sew the second zipper braid to the hem and raglan sleeve. The braid should be between the valance and the sleeve. Iron and continue finishing stitches.
13. Fasten the cuts of the facing and the lower collar after overcasting in any convenient way. Ideal on a stitcher or twin needle, but thick, felted footer can be pinned by hand.
14. There is a hole for the thumb. For processing, a transverse strip of thin knitwear in tone or dovyaz is suitable. The width of the strip is 6 - 7 cm. The length is along the length of the cut of the hole of the thumb, no more! Stitch the strip into a ring, fold it in half like cuffs and sew it into the hole like cuffs. For cleanliness of processing, you can first sew in one “layer” of the finger cuff, bend the seam up towards the finger, cover the seam with the second “layer” of the cuff, after overcasting it, and secure with a narrow zigzag or hand stitches.
